Unit 1: Developing a Final Outcome

Nature Vs Man made

The emphasis of this assignment is to develop skills with the experimental use
of a range of different recording techniques and the eventual development of
a final piece of artwork inspired by the artists studied.
You have five weeks to complete your final outcome as well as all supporting
visual work and notes to explain your ideas and prove your knowledge and
understanding. Recording and presenting your investigations and

experiments provides the evidence that is assessed towards your

final grade, it is imperative that you complete all work set to the best
of your ability and make your presentation clear, legible and visually
enticing to show how well you understand the themes, techniques,
artists & photographers and demonstrate the depth of your
investigations and your skills.
Your work will be marked on how well you:
Record in visual and other forms AO3
Develop ideas through sustained investigations AO1
Use media, techniques and processes AO2
Demonstrate analytical & critical understanding AO1
Review and refine AO2
Reflect on work and progress AO3
Produce a personal, well-resolved response demonstrating critical
understanding AO4

AS ART, CRAFT & DESIGN

Unit1: Developing a Final Outcome
Part 3:
You are to develop your investigations into the theme nature Vs man-made
towards a final outcome. You are to choose one of the following options on
how to develop your work.
1. Develop ideas for pattern work based on your observations and
recordings of the theme, your pattern will explore a juxtaposition or
opposites between man-made and nature. You can relate your work to
any of the artists studied so far and any others you choose to reference.
You can work in any relevant medium i.e. print, clay, plaster, work on
fabric, collage etc. You will need to mock up your pattern on
objects/graphic items to show its possible uses.
2. Develop ideas from your initial investigations to create a fine art outcome
in response to an aspect of man-made Vs nature of your choice. You
may work in paint, relief, mixed media, 3d and installation and can be on
any scale. Your work may or may not communicate some kind of
message or could be solely aesthetic. You may want to explore the work
of other artists as well as the ones you have already studied to create an
original viewpoint of nature Vs man-made.
3. Use your initial studies of nature Vs man-made as a starting point from
which to develop a series of photos/photomontages/digital art work
which explore the similarities and contrasts between the shapes, textures,
and structures of the natural and man-made objects. Think about the
possible purpose of your images ie. for posters, digital backgrounds for
websites, magazine layouts or simply artworks. Show your consideration of
this in your work.

Fill gaps with copied sections of their work in a variety of
appropriate materials
Explain which of the outcome options you have chosen and why
Explain what you intend to do, what imagery you may use and
what effects, messages, purpose your work may have
At least 3 design ideas
Ideas must show clear reference to your chosen artists and your
chosen theme (use pictures of artists work and your own imagery to
show this)
Explain links with artists work clearly through annotation and visual
reference
Reference how you have experimented with each design in the
materials you have chosen and which techniques you used and
how well they worked
Clear sketch of final design/intended design
Explain your choice of techniques for your final piece
Reference any maquettes/mock-ups you have made of your ideas
(add a photos or copies)

chosen theme (use pictures of artists work and your own imagery to
show this)
Explain links with artists work clearly through annotation and visual
reference
Add photos of your work in progress or screenshots
Identify any changes in direction from your design and explain why
A completed final artwork
An evaluation and photo of your artwork
Mock-ups of your work on objects/in situ as appropriate
Fill the page
Consider layout of information on pages
