Why do people record the police?
11-13-2015
Annotated Bibliography
I am interested in this question because there are so many videos that
have been posted online that show police officers getting a little out of hand.
Whether theyre threatening civilians for filming them, or arresting someone
for drinking iced tea, police officers are unpredictable nowadays. One minute
they can be your best friend, and then the next minute theyre arresting and
harassing sober drivers at unauthorized safety checkpoints. The police
should be recorded no matter what they are doing. Any situation involving
the police can take a turn quickly. The other day I read an article about how
some cops arrested an African American for drinking tea. Cmon, he wasnt
doing anything wrong.

In this video we see police officers that are Taser happy. When it
comes to pulling out a Taser on a guy who didnt do anything, the
cop(s) involved need to be on video so there is proof of them doing
something thats unlawful.

In this book we read about police officers being sued because people
have caught them on video, not serving and protecting citizens, but
rather abusing citizens. If cops are on video, they cant lie about what
really happened. Footage doesnt lie.

This magazine article is where you can read about different stories of
police misconduct in many different states from Philadelphia to LA.
How has this come to be known? It is known because of videos of
police misconduct going viral all over the interment.

We can see in this Chicago Tribune article that a municipality can suffer
because their police department makes mistakes. The reason towns
payout is because their cops are caught making all kinds of mistakes.
Theyre recorded by anyone with a camera.

In this website article we read about cops being accused of sexual
misconduct. Why are they back at work? Its because they werent
found guilty. Now lets say that they are recorded sexually assaulting
victims; then theres proof so they cant walk away.

This book contains information about how police brutality is going on

anywhere you can think of. The general public should always have a
way of documenting the police so they can get the word out to people
to be on alert wherever they are.

This article from the Chicago Sun-Times is about how the city of
Chicago has been paying out millions of dollars due to wrongful action
by the Chicago Police Department. With the city having money
problems, pay-puts could not have come at a worse time.

We see in this article that police abusing their authority has raised
concern about legit police authority in a democratic society. Two videos
have gone viral over the internet, from the LAPD beating Rodney King
to the NYPD torturing Abner Louima.

Gave A Cop Killer Directions. The Free Thought Project. 5 November
2015. Web. 6 Nov. 2015.
From this article we can read about police officers not leaving a guy
alone all because he gave directions to a man who just happened to
kill a cop. How is that fair? Any delivery driver is use to giving people
directions to anywhere.

In this database article we can see that police brutality is increasing
throughout the U.S. Many people need to read this article so the word
can get out about cops doing wrong and that they should be punished
for no serving and protecting citizens.
