b) Make notes of the actual attending strategy used by the teacher (e.g. Attending
strategies: name, nod, smile, eye contact, reprimanding look, touch or others)
The most used attending strategies were naming and making gestures to students
who the teacher wanted to talk to. I.e using her hands and arms to point a particular
student,
After the lesson:
a) Reflect on your findings.
-
Teacher moves around when students are practicing content or doing an activity where
they need help. Teacher checks students performance during the class
- Does s/he project to all the learners?
Teacher projects it almost to all the learners because most of the time they work in pairs
or groups.
- Can s/he be heard and seen clearly by all the students?
Yes, it is possible because of sitting arrangement. Teacher promotes sitting in a semi
circle so she can see all the students and all students can see her.
- Does s/he make eye contact with individual learners?
Teacher makes eye contact especially with those students who do not pay attention to
what the teacher says in order to make them focus on the lesson.
b) What have you learned from this observation that you could apply to your
own teaching?
Mainly sitting arrangement. I strongly believe that this kind of arrangement makes
possible to monitor and to look all students. I think it is very important in the sense of
making students participate and getting involve into the topic, content and obviously the
lesson. Another aspect is that teacher contacts students during the whole lesson, that
helps teacher to know if students are learning or not.
