Should Animal Testing Be Allowed?

Recent research has concluded that animal testing is the most efficient
way of helping, and possibly saving thousands of lives. Although, it would
mean the death of over one hundred million animals every single year. In
fact, it results in this amount of animals dying every year for projects such
as biology classes, cosmetics testing and medical testing in America
alone. An addition of four million animals are killed in the UK each year, of
which does not include surplus. Surplus are animals which are bred and
then killed, so scientist have access to parts of their bodies for later
testing. .Animals varying from frogs to monkeys to even the pets people
have at home, are killed for the testing of makeup, medical training, drugs
and food testing.

__AGAINST ANIMAL TESTING__

Many people disagree with the protesting against animal testing, as they
believe it saves many lives but dont they know it destroys many more.
In animal testing, countless animals are experimented on and then killed
after their use. Others are injured and will still live the remainder of their
lives in captivity. http://www.aboutanimaltesting.co.uk/using-animalstesting-pros-versus-cons.html). This source is credible as it was written by
an animal tester after two years in the environment of testing. She left
due to the horrific sights she experienced during the years. She now works
with, and supports groups that are against animal testing, spreading the
words of the horrors she witnessed. On average most experiments fail as
reported by The Food and Drug Administration last year. 92 out of every
100 drugs that pass animal tests fail on humans.
http://www.peta.org/blog/top-five-reasons-stop-animal-testing/). Due to
this conclusion, many people also decided against animal testing as they
believe it is an actual waste of time and lives. After countless protests
around laboratories in many locations of the world, a scientist who goes
by the name, Professor James Hickman, was able to create a machine of
which mimics standard human muscular functions. He was the leader of a
small team of scientist on a mission to prevent the use for animal and
human testing, he named his piece of technology a neuromuscular
junction mimic. This is a reason against all animal testing, because it is
something that could stop the killing of millions of animals every year. It
would also give the scientists a much clearer result to see if the drugs
were to actually work or not. Yet people are still using animals.

__FOR ANIMAL TESTING__

There are many reasons why animal testing could be a good thing. It helps
insure drugs are safe for human consumption. Animal testing has also
previously helped to increase the survival rate of those with breast
cancer. (http://www.understandinganimalresearch.org.uk/aboutus/science-action-network/forty-reasons-why-we-need-animals-inresearch/). This was discovered during a research using Herceptin a
humanised mouse protein. It was claimed, that breast cancer survivors
may not have been here today without the help of animal testing. Many
scientists have mentioned they typically use animals for testing purposes
only because they are considered similar to humans.
(http://www.aboutanimaltesting.co.uk/using-animals-testing-pros-versuscons.html). This is a bias source because it was written by a scientist who
was not against the animal testing system. This quote also suggests to
everyone, that animals are our only resort, we have to use them to find a
cure for ourselves. Many people believe animal testing is the only way for
humans to live a healthy and better life. Animal research and testing has
played a part in almost every medical breakthrough of the last century. It has
saved hundreds of millions of lives worldwide.
(http://www.understandinganimalresearch.org.uk/about-us/science-actionnetwork/forty-reasons-why-we-need-animals-in-research/). This proves to millions
of people that even though animals are used for testing, they benefits millions of
people everyone one hundred years. The lady who said this is a British politician
and a Former UK Home Office minister known as Joan Ryan. This could also be
classed as a biased source because people trust politicians and people with
authority. Animal research has helped develop modern vaccines including those
against Polio, TB and Meningitis.
http://www.understandinganimalresearch.org.uk/about-us/science-actionnetwork/forty-reasons-why-we-need-animals-in-research/). This suggests a strong
reason behind why animal testing is for a good cause and why it should be
allowed within many countries. It has also been written by a scientist who works
in these horrific environments. This quote has been used to help promote the
cause, meaning scientists are still being paid money to do it, making this quote
have a vested interest.

__IN MY OPINION __
In my opinion animal testing shouldnt be allowed, as it causes pain and death to
many living creatures. 92 out of every 100 drugs that pass animal tests fail on
humans.(http://www.peta.org/blog/top-five-reasons-stop-animal-testing/). This
leads myself to believe that most animal tested medicines are unreliable and
unsafe. This evidence is credible as its been told by many different scientist
from around the world. In comparison, animal testing has benefited millions of
humans, having helped develop modern vaccines including those against Polio,
TB and Meningitis( http://www.understandinganimalresearch.org.uk/aboutus/science-action-network/forty-reasons-why-we-need-animals-in-research/) This
quote pathetically says helped and not cured making it a bias point. This
circumstantial evidence can make people change their mind on this topic
because of the way the sentence has been written. Countless animals have been

brutally murdered over the years to help develop some medicine. Medicine that
92 percent of the time doesnt even work on humans. Honestly animal testing
can save many human lives, but how many animals does it kill in the process?
Im sure there are much more reliable ways to test medicine. Like Professor

James Hickmans machine perhaps.
