Frenchs 2015-2016
English 11R!
The intent of this syllabus is to inform you of the expectations and tools that will
enable you to be successful in this class! If you ever are in need of anything that we
have no covered in class, or you wish to ask a question or get clarification that we
may not have covered in class, please feel free to contact me:

Course description: In this course, we will explore ideas within the text,
learn to think critically, write analytically and in turn, learn something about
ourselves. In English 11R, we will focus on American literature, Elizabethan
literature as well as non-fiction literature in which we will learn to analyze
through various reading strategies. This class is centered around
responsibility and respect. These two things are fundamental to your
success.

Course expectations:

RESPECT! It is fundamental that we are respectful of one another. In this classroom, we

treat each other with a relationship of respect in order to ensure that our class runs
smoothly. Bottom line, we treat each other with respect, we will be more successful and
get more out of this class.
Participation in class in essential to success! Participation in class is how I gage and
identify your strengths and where we need to build skills. Participation is fundamental as
to what you will take out of this class. Not only does it affect you, it affects the
atmosphere of the classroom. YOU HAVE A VOICE! USE IT, YOUR IDEAS
MATTER AND CAN INSPIRE SOMEONE ELSE! This is your chance to voice it.
Attendance: Attendance is crucial to your success. If you are absent, it is your
responsibility to get caught up and get the work that you missed. This will be available
through Edmodo or in class, where the missed work is located. If you are truant to class,
you will not be allowed to make up missed work. If you choose to skip class, make sure it
is worth it to your grade. If you are going to be out for an extended amount of time,
please make sure that you are communicating that to me.
Late Attendance Policy: It is essential that you are on time to class! If you are late more
than three times, it will be a write up. This is not to be mean; it is merely to ensure that
you are getting to class on time. When you are late, class is disrupted. Again, our
classroom will be an environment of respect and it is essential that we are respecting one
another. If you are late once or twice, please just again, communicate with me.
Late work policy: In order to ensure success, you must turn your work in on time. Not
only is this crucial to our curriculum, it is crucial in life. For every day that the
assignment is late, you will lose ten percent off of the total points allotted. After ten days,
the work will not be accepted.
Academic honesty policy: Per the school handbook, plagiarism is an automatic zero.
Honesty is the best policy!
In our class, we will use Edmodo (edmodo.com) quite a bit. Please write down this code for your
specific class:
