A common argument of gun advocates is

that guns dont kill people, people kill people. But, 70 percent of all homicides are
committed with firearms, so the reality is
that people with guns kill people.

An argument of why this
is unnecessary

New Texas Legislation

In 2015, Governor Greg Abbott, signed the bill
S.B. 11, also known as the Campus Carry Law.
These are the requirements

A person must have a license to carry a concealed handgun

Must be over 21 to obtain a license

Fraternity and sorority houses are not affected

Carrying a concealed handgun while intoxicated is still a crime

Gun Ownership

Victims and Offenders

A 2013 study, shows that the U.S. has the highest of gun related deaths, among the top twentyseven developed nations.

Men, ages 25 and younger, are more likely than

women to be crime victims. Of those arrested for
homicide in 2010, 43% were between the ages of
17 and 24. And about half of all victims of homicide are black males. Most crime, in fact, occurs
in lower income households.

In the U.S. there is 88 guns per 100 people

Yemen, being the second most armed country, only has 55 guns per 100 people

Switzerland, the third most armed nation,

only has 45.7 guns per 100 people

Canada has a relatively high rate of private

gun ownership at 30 per 100 people

Firearm Deaths

Solution Without a Problem

Whenever this topic is brought to the table, the
NRA believes that the solution is introducing more
guns to society. Gun advocates refuse to discuss
the introduction of stricter regulations on firearms.

Even though Switzerland and America are booth

among the top developed nations, the U.S. has
more than double the amount of firearm related
deaths at 10 per 100,000; Switzerland has a rate
of 3.84 per 100,000.

Also there is a belief that the implementation of

S.B. 11 will start a domino effect on campus,
since people will feel threatened by the presence
of concealed guns on campus, leading them to
obtain handguns to protect themselves from
harm.

Also is important to know that the U.S. has les

the 5% of the worlds population, and owns nearly half the worlds firearms.

Because violence is already rare on campus why

does the Texas legislature feel the need to arm
college students?

Why We Are Opposed

On October 1, 2015 a 26-year old college student
entered the Umpqua Community College and
fatally shot an assistant professor and another
eight students.
Although the media revolves around these incidents, they only account for a relatively small percentage of homicides and gun violence in the U.S.

A study in the U.S. showed that out of

400 gun homicides only 83% of the
perpetrators were identified, and out of
that 83%, only 5% were strangers.
