Assignment: L3-e

Abstract
This is the last assignment in our L3 project, which is about
testing assembly plane and evaluation. Therefore, this is the last stage
to put everything of our artifact in the right place as well as to make
sure that all what was done is in a proper way. This assignment is very
important for many reasons. One of them is to show the modified parts
are used as well as the materials they made of. Knowing those parts
will drive us to clearly demonstrate our assembly plan used in making
our artifact. Also to recognize the environmental, social and cultural
impacts of this artifact. Passing through the stages of this assignment
in sequence will drive us at the end to a good conclusion of our project.
First of all, a bill of material for the parts of our artifact was created.
This step will help us creating our assembly plan initially as well as
finally after modifying. Potential Problem Analysis used in this
assignment to evaluate our initial assembly plan, which highlighted
any possible assembly problems that might face during manufacturing
our artifact. The result of the potential problem analysis was used to
revise our assembly plan and showed that they were used in the
revised version of the assembly plan. After that, assembly plan was
tasted with the Willing Worker. At the end, knowing the materials that
our artifact made out of and the final appearance of the artifact help us
discovering the impacts of it whether on the environment, society and
culture.

Task 2: Initial Assembly Plan

In this step, creating an initial assembly plan for our artifact will
be covered to make it clear for the customer who buys and uses the
artifact. The initial assembly plan will be visualized According to the
parts that we draw it in assignment L3-D. Then, the KTPPA method will
be applied on it to find out the difficulties and problems in our plan in
order to develop it and create a modified one. Now, the initial assembly
plan will be showed.
1 Put the battery connector on the 9-volt battery.
2 Connect the wires on the battery and put A in the positive and B
in the negative.
3 Connect the wires with the switch.
4 Connect the wires from the switch to fans.
5 Put the filter on the fans.
6 Put the fans on the mask.

Discussion
In this step, how the assembly plans are very important is
learned. In addition, we tried our best to create an initial assembly plan
after many time of thinking. But we are little bit confused about it and
we think that it needs some improvements, so the KTPPA method is
being applied on it to find out weakness points and try to modify them
to create a final modified assembly plan.

Task 3: KTPPA
After completing the initial assembly plan for our project
components, in this part K.T Potential Problem Analysis Table is being
made. Through this the potential problem of initial assembly plan could
be found out that might occur, in addition to that the consequences,
possible causes, preventive actions and contingency plan of the
potential problems will be mentioned if it occurred.

Discussion
After completing the K.T. Potential Problem Analysis Table the
potential problem was understood that might be occur in initial
assembly plan. In this table three problems were mentioned that might
occur, in addition to that the causes and ways were found for how to
deal with those problems.

Task 4: Final Assembly Plan

After finishing the KTPPA for the initial assembly plan. This
method helped us to move forward to amendment past mistakes in the
project. And put the final steps of the project and install the device. the
modification is being showed by writing a small summary of the steps
of Final Assembly Plan.

Final Assembly Plan

This is the last practical part of our project, which in the
celebration day is being presented. After buying the parts, in this
project will be used. Now in this part these parts are being put
together. At first, some extra holes will be made for better breathing.
Next, the fans will be connected with battery through electrical wires,
which have a button for switching off or on. Next, these fans will be
held in two sides of the mask; these fans will have filter to save the
inner side of mask from pollution. Finally, battery will be plugged with
its switch button in the top side of the mask. These were the steps that
we made in order to make our device.

Discussion
In final assembly plan, have been learned that any product
there should be some modifications, which depend on factors like the
quality, time, and costumers needs and so on. In the process of this
step, the steps of the final assembly plan was written in a small sheet
of paper. After that, these steps were reviewed and make sure that
they are correct. Finally, small summary is written about these steps. In

the following step, a willing worker is being made to try our artifact and
give us his positive and negative impacts on it.

Task 5: The Willing Worker

Our team is a very careful team about the quality of the work.
For that, we asked one of the students in the faculty of engineering in
KAU to be our willing worker, as it is required in the assignment, in
order to assemble and evaluate our project to make sure that it works
well. It was very hard to find someone to work with us assembling the
parts. After we have tried for long time to find a willing worker, Eng.
Jamal Bawazer we explained to him each part and what is its function
in our project finally accepted to be our willing worker with a condition
that he can just evaluate our project, And gave us some suggestions
such as buying smaller fans and improve the design of the mask by
coloring the mask or make some amendments to it and told us that our
project is cheap but very effective he looked into the progress of our
project.

Discussion
Finding a willing worker while working is a very difficult task to
accomplish. However, Eng. Jamal Bawazer, a student in the faculty of
engineering in KAU accepted our request to be our willing worker, He
suggested some good ideas for the improvement of our project and
asked some questions about it to be demonstrated. He thanks us for
working in order to help people Especially in crowded places and he
appreciated what we have done as well. He thinks that the idea is
great and helpful with some suggestions to be done carefully. For the
next step, environmental impact statement will take place.

Task 6: Environmental Impact

In this step, we are proceeding to the environmental impact
statement in order to know the positive and negative impact of our
artifact that might effect on the environment, which is represented as
water, air, land, structures, living organisms, and economic aspects. By

doing this task, we will become aware of the positive and negative
impacts of our artifact on the environment in addition to the ways
removing or even mitigating the negative impacts. We will list the
positive and negative impacts and develop some ways to mitigate the
negative ones. After that we will discuss each impact, write the things
that we have learned, and then the process used.
Positive Impacts

Reduce the risks if there is low density of air.

Used to avoid suffocation in pilgrimage season
Contribute in health care.
More safe and sometimes used as a pollution preventer.
Encourage people to use clean air or atmosphere

short.

Discussion
One of the important aspects that must be kept in mind is the
both positive and negative environmental impacts of our artifact. In
this step of our L3-E assignment, some of those impacts and the
mitigation measures were started, which can help a lot in terms of
mitigating or removing them. The importance of the relation between
the society and the culture and the products we produce have been
learnt. In the process of doing this step, the social and cultural impacts
of our products were discussed and then came up with many positive
impacts as well as few negative impacts with their mitigation measures
aiming to mitigate them.

Task 7: Social and Cultural Impacts

7 | Page

Social and cultural impact used to know how the artifact effects
on the community, mobility, safety, and community facilities and
services which include schools, mosques, parks, recreation centers,
libraries, hospitals, and emergency services. This step is necessary to
improve our project and avoid any negative impact.
Positive impacts
It will reduce suffocation of people in crowded places such as
Hajj.
It will purify air for who used the mask.
The society will be helpful in using the mask especially old
people.
Negative Impacts

Discussion
In this step the importance of the relation between society and
culture and products we produce were learned. For positive impacts,
our project will be helpful the society. It will reduce and avoid
suffocation in crowded places and purify air. On the other hand, the
negative impacts for our project are difficult to attract people. We will
make it in beautiful design. Also, difficult to use for different type of
people. We will make it simple and we will make instruction note.

Conclusion

8 | Page

After arriving to the end of the semester, the artifact must be

tested and make sure it does not have any negative impact in addition
to ensure a maximum level of its quality. Testing and evaluation a
project help us a lot in terms of having a high quality one and reducing
the probability of negative impacts. Throughout this assignment L3-E,
covered and learnt a lot like knowing the materials of our project parts
much deeper, and stating the impacts, which our project might include.
Skills of evaluating and verifying were evaluated whether things go
well or wrong. Looking to the society and environment from different
angles widened our view about the positive and the negative impacts
that effect on them, and taught us to be careful about the impact of
our project. In the process of doing this assignment, a bill of materials
(BOM) including our project parts' names, the quantity of each part and
the materials that our parts made of was created. Then, proceed to
create an initial assembly plan, which shows how the user can
assemble the project easily and safely and use it in a perfect way. After
that, KTPPA Method was implied on this initial assembly plan where the
potential problems for our project, causes, adverse consequences,
preventives and contingencies plans were started. Then, modification
the assembly plan were verified. So, some parts were corrected and
modified that we faced problems with assembling then following by
working with an outsider person who is not a member in our team but
in the same level as we are. This person called Willing Worker who saw
our potential assembly plan and gave us some notifications and
suggestions. Then, the environmental aspect was covered to start
thinking about its positive and negative effects in order to be careful
about the positive ones in addition to be aware enough of those which
are negatives offering the solutions of problems, which might be faced,
following by the social and cultural impacts with the same steps as the
previous one. After defining the real problem and proceeding to
generate ideas of artifacts, and then selecting our artifact according to
achieve some criteria, the solution-implementing step was proceeded.
At the end, the testing an assembly plan and evaluation were
proceeded that are included in this assignment L3-E. Finally, all these
stages were done successfully and hope that our project will be very
beneficial to the society in terms of avoid suffocation.
