To Think That, One

By: Marina Mikheil

For a topic that I was very passionate about, finding counterarguments was difficult.
Although, it helped me see other peoples view and understand my topic more. What I liked most
about my paper was that I felt that I picked some of the strongest arguments that were most
discussed in society. I made sure that every argument had a clear claim with evidence however,
my warrants could have been stronger. I think that thats where I felt most confused, is
distinguishing my warrant and claim. Im sure I can improve this in the future through the more
use of warrants that way I can get used to identifying them in my paper or any general writing.
Peer review was useful because based on my rough draft, you can see that I had trouble putting
my counterarguments together. The revision I ended up making was changing my writing only to
focus on the opposing views side and adding none of my opinions.

A recent letter was previously posted by a feminist on a blog intended for those who call
themselves a meninst, argued a position for her movement that seemed to have had its
struggles. Although, it received an even bigger back-lash when others shared their counterarguments against the points that were made. The meninsts that seemed to be targeted shared
their side defending themselves, claiming that women already have their rights and that its
unethical for them to argue their struggles while excluding the men.
The blogger states that certain professions such as teaching, nursing, or being an assistant
earn much less than most known professions for men, yet doesnt take into factor that free will
exists. According to the meninsts, they argue that women are the ones who chose to go into those
career fields with the open mind of the wages that theyll be earning. Just as men chose to go into
different professions that happen to earn more wages, merely for the reason that they work some
of the hardest as well as most dangerous jobs in society. The feminist mentioned examples of
professions that they go into such as engineering and politics, which both happen to require
many years of schooling. The meninsts ask, if men put in all that hard work and energy,
shouldnt they deserve to earn a little more for their labor? Women cant complain that stay-athome moms dont get paid when women were created to nurture and be the caregivers of the
household; that shouldnt account as an occupation.
Despite the fact that the feminist claims that sports are biased, the meninsts believe that
masculinity is based on the biological sex, so why are those who are considered strong or more
athletic than others shamed for their talented abilities? Womens sports are given the same
respect and opportunities as men; its not about the man controlling how much attention their
sports receive. Some sports are known to be made more for men than for women, just like the

certain sports that are known to be for womens. In particular, that is why the womens
gymnastics team gets more views during the Olympics than the mens team. The meninsts also
give an example by asking what gender comes to ones head when they think of a dancer,
gymnast, or an ice skater. Theres certain sports where either gender is more dominant merely
because they each share their own advantages in the sport.
Moreover, while arguing that the movement is for both sexes, the feminist shamed men for
starting a movement for their own privilege. For just recently, the most popular twitter page The
Meninst seemed to have been criticized for its misogynistic tweets against women. Yet
according to the meninsts themselves, they claim that they have every right to share their own
views and opinions since it is a social network for all. Men wouldnt think of feminists as manhating if women didnt make men feel more oppressed, the meninsts state. The feminist cant
claim that feminism is equality for both sexes while advocating for only one gender and never
bringing up the struggles of men.
Consequently, the meninsts had several counterarguments against the false accusations that
were made against them. They stated that its unjust for women to claim that theres inequality in
the workplace while theres free choice. But also defended themselves from criticism against
their natural abilities, its unethical to shame others who happened to be stronger or advance
more than the other gender at a sport. Despite the fact that men may have some opposing views
against women, the meninsts feel as though they have just as much rights as women to voice
their opinion. Therefore, women ought to respect the mens movement just as they do for their
own gender.
