5. Were graphic organizers used? What were they? What graphic organizers could have
been used?
Graphic organizers were used very often in the 9th and 10th grade classes that I
observed. They were easy to read, cut right to the point, and allowed students to write
down important facts and information that could be used in future writing assignments or
to study for an exam. The teacher I observed made a point to review each graphic
organizer with the class so that each student had the correct information written down.
7. What evidence of home-school communication was seen? Was it effective?
Unfortunately, I saw little evidence of home-school communication, but that
could also be due to the fact that I was only in the school for 9 hours per week. As weve
learned in the past two semesters, home-school communication is key for all students, but
especially important for struggling students, ELLs, and students with disabilities. Homeschool communication allows for the teacher, parents and students to be informed and on
the same page with the childs education.
2. What are the parameters and methods for grading students?
I noticed that both of the teachers I observed this semester were tough graders.
When I observed in my 9th and 10th grade classes, it was clear the my teacher was tough
on deadlines and made it clear that she would not accept any work after the said deadline.
Additionally, she reiterated what she was looking for with every assignment she gave,
and also modeled most assignments so that students would have a better idea of what
they needed to do. Each written assignment was given back with corrections and a grade,
which helped students understand their strengths and weaknesses.
