Reflection

As a person who finds technology to be fascinating, I anticipated participating in the

course Educational Technology. On entering the class I was very excited. I thought that I was
going to learn about just using the computer as a tool to teach my future students, but to my
surprise it goes beyond my expectations. During this semester doing this cause it has provided
me with valuable insights, information and learning experiences that has allowed me to be
engaged in the learning process. The course Educational Technology has helped me in fostering
my understanding of the different technological tools and how to use them to integrate
technology in education.
Having completed this course, I can see where I have grown accomplished and achieved
allot, as this course has contributed to the little knowledge I had about technology. Before doing
this course I was unaware of the different computer based tools. In doing this course I have learnt
how to successfully and effectively integrate technology in facilitating my future students.
Consequently, becoming more skilful in the manipulating of the various computer base tools
such as movie maker, PowerPoint, audio recording. Also form attending this class I was made
aware of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards. The ISTE
standards define the new skills and pedagogical insights educators need to teach work and learn
in the digital age (ISTE standards for teachers, 2015). Moreover, from attending the classes I
was also made aware that technology integration is not just using the computer as a tool or add
on, it is achieved when it is used to support curricular goals. It must support active engagement,
participation in groups, frequent interaction and feedback, and connection to real world experts,
which are the four components to learning.

Finally through attending the classes I have achieved a number of goals. One such goal I
have achieved is that I have learnt to successfully integrate technology in teaching the digital
natives of tomorrow by creating a technology rich learning environment. Digital natives are
person born after the widespread adoption of digital technology. Ever since I have gotten a laptop
I have been trying to use the window movie maker, now that I have done this course I can say
that I am finally successful. Also during my years at college I have been trying to create an
interactive PowerPoint and all because of this cause it has been made possible.

Recommendations for Improvements

The course Education Technology has last for approximately thirteen weeks. The course has been
deemed to be effective as I have grown and have learnt to successfully integrate technology in
education as I will be teaching digital natives. However, for improvement I recommend that an
environment be created where there is excellence in the access of internet. I recommend this
because during some of the class sessions the teachers as well as the students were unable to
complete task and lesson as planned... For example, in a class were we were supposed to create
the podcast, we were having trouble with the internet access. Some of the students were unable
to create their podcast and felt frustrated and lost. Taking this recommendation will help in
lessening the frustration of the students.
