This assignment about the electronics and communication

engineering. It has been discussed my technical skills and my social skills. It
has explained sort of problems which electronics and communication
engineers face, typical projects length and sort of companies hire electronics
and communication engineers. Also, it has talked about the number of
electronics and communication engineers. In addition, it has explained the
name of the professional society, future of electronics and communication in
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, job market and salaries package of electronics and
communication engineers. The aims for doing this assignment is to increase
my awareness about electronics and communication engineering, to improve
my research and present skills and improve my English language.

Introduction:
Without electricity we cannot live. We cannot use television,
computers, mobile phones and air conditioners, so electricity is importance to
life. There are four sections of electricity engineering in King Abdul-Aziz
University which are power and machines, electronics and communication,
computer and biomedical engineering. I have written and discussed about the
engineering field that I want to join it which is electronics and communication
engineering. I chose this field because I like to deal with electronic devices
and mathematics and physics application.

Technical Skills:
Since I was young I like to deal with electronic devices and mathematics
and physics application. I have watched a lot of documentaries about
electrical and how do we benefit from it in our life. In addition, my marks in
secondary school, foundation year in the university and general year in faculty
of engineering are excellent in mathematics and physics. So I think electronic
and communication engineering and industrial engineering fit best with my
technical skills. I am having a problem when I use designing programs such
as soildworks. Also, I have got not excellent marks in mechanical drawing
(meng), so I think mechanical engineering and civil engineering do not fit with
my technical skills.

Social Skills:
Social skills are important for communicating and interacting with
others effectively. An engineer deal with customers and other engineers, so it
is necessary. My family and friends think I have ability to listen and not
interrupting anybody. Also, they think I am calm person and non-angry. I like
Sharing with others in working, learning even playing. I am responsible for my

life and what is I am doing. I think these social skills which I have will help me
in my life.

Electronics and Communications Engineers Problems:

Electronics and communications engineers solve many problems.
Electronics engineers usually work projects with engineers in other branches
of engineering. Electronics engineers use scientific knowledge of the behavior
and effects of electrons to design, develop and test components, devices,
systems or equipment that use electricity. Electronics engineers typically do
the following:

Design electronic components, software, products, or systems for

commercial, industrial, medical, military, or scientific applications.

Analyze customer needs and determine electrical system requirements,

capacity, and cost to develop a system plan.

Develop maintenance and testing procedures for electronic components

and equipment.

Evaluate systems and recommend design modifications or equipment

repair.

Inspect electronic equipment, instruments, and systems to make sure

they meet safety standards and applicable regulations.

Plan and develop applications and modifications for electronic

properties used in parts and systems to improve technical
performance[1].

Typical projects length

The project length is different from project to other. It is depend on
types of projects, types of companies, the capital invested on them and
requirements of a customer. I will mention a project of Saudi Telecom (STC) to
provide Internet and telephone service and the time duration of the project.
5 projects under implementation for the delivery of telecommunications and
Internet services to remote villages, covering 9 areas and 71 counties and
serving 2.7 million residents of remote areas. The project started in May 2015
and will end in December 2017[2].

Companies that hire Electronics and Communications

Engineers:
There are many companies electronics and communications engineers
can work in. Companies which include communication systems for example
Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Mobily, Zain and lebara. Companies that
interested in various control and operating system such as Saudi Basic
Industries Corporation (SABIC), Saudi Electricity Company, Aramco, Saudi
Arabian Airlines, Saudi Bin Ladin Group, Zamil Group, Advanced Electronics
Company, TV channels and radio.

Saudi Telecom Company (STC):

Saudi Telecom Company is the largest provider of
telecommunications services in the middle east and North Africa. In addition
to being the leading telecommunications company in Saudi Arabia, "Saudi
Telecom has a strong international presence in 9 countries[3]. It was
established in 20th of April 1998 and number of employees are 17,000
employees[4]. It provides internet and telephone services for all cities of
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Advanced Electronics Company (AEC):
Established in 1988 under the directives of the Government of Saudi
Arabia, the Advanced Electronics Company is an offset program company and
now a recognized leader in the field of modern electronics manufacturing,
system integration and repair and maintenance services. AEC is a private
sector company to serve local, national, regional and international clients
within the defense, telecom and manufacturing industries. The AEC charter
includes design, development, manufacturing, the provision of upgrades and
logistical support of electronic products and systems[5].

Number of Electronics and Communications Engineers :

30% of the ministers in Saudi Arabia are Engineers. According to
Saudi council engineers there are 199,572 engineers in Saudi Arabia[6] in
all specializations. The number of Electronics and Communications Engineers
who are registered in Saudi council engineers are 210 Saudi engineers as
opposed to 14,149 non-Saudi engineers[7].

Professional Society:
An engineering professional society is non-profit organization was
established to develop around a particular career field or occupation to keep
its members connected and informed about industry developments. There are
many professional Society for electronics and communications engineering for
example:
1) Saudi Council of Engineering:
In Saudi Arabia the name of the professional society for engineering is
Saudi Council of Engineering. It operates under the supervision of Ministry of
Commerce. It aims to develop and upgrade the professional standards and
those practicing it. setting necessary rules, regulations, and examinations for
obtaining professional degrees; conducting courses, conferences, symposia,
and exhibitions relating to the profession; and submission of technical advice
in its area of specialization in accordance with regulations to be approved by
the Councils Board of Directors[8].
2) Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE):
IEEE is the world's largest professional association dedicated to
advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of
humanity. There are more than 400,000 IEEE members in over 160 countries
around the world. IEEE members are engineers, scientists and allied
professionals whose technical interests are rooted in electrical and computer
sciences, engineering and related disciplines" [9].

Job Market:
Electronics and communications engineering continuously develops
very quickly. Employers usually look for a confident problem solving
engineers. They must be accurate, creative and have advanced analysis skills.
They must withstand pressure and make the best decision and make use of
available recourse. Also, They must possess good interpersonal
communication skills, must be able to work in a team environment, to lead a
technical group and delegate work to others. They must be willing to spend
15% to 25% of time in field, with occasional weekends and must be able to
coordinate and execute multiple tasks[10].

Salary Package:
According the table 1 the average of salaries of electronic and
communication engineers in Saudi Arabia is 96,000 Saudi Riyals per year

which equals 8,000 Saudi Riyals per month. With experience the salary can be
reach to 210,000 Saudi Riyals per year.

The average salary for an Electrical Engineer is 30,668 per year. A

skill in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) / Automation is associated with
high pay for this job. It will be reach to 47,000 with experience.(see figure
1) [12].

An electronic engineer earns an average salary of $70,675 per year. By

experience they earns nearly $100,000.(see figure 2)[13].

Future of Electronics and Communications Engineers:

Electronics and Communications Engineering one of the largest and
fastest growing field of engineering. In the United States electronics engineers
are expected to have an employment growth of four percent from 2012 to
2022 because rising demand for electrical and electronic goods, including
advanced communications equipment, defense-related electronic equipment,
and consumer electronics products.(see figure 3)[14].

Conclusion:
After I have done from this assignment I have got a lot of information
about my field of engineering
which is Electronic and communication
engineering. I have become more aware and expert about my discipline. One
of the importance thing I learned is how I write assignment or report by using
presentation of technical work. Also, I learned more about problems which
electronics and communication engineers face, projects length, companies
hire electronics and communication engineers, number of electronics and
communication engineers, name of the professional society, future of
electronics and communication in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, job market and
salaries package. All of these information will help me after graduation from
university. I have used the internet to get the information about electronics and
communication engineering. Also, I got some information from my friends
and relatives who are engineers. After doing research and
collecting
information I have corrected some of my wrong information about my field.
Now I became more expert about my field. This assignment increased my
enthusiasm to know more about electronics and communication engineering. I
will start reading more topics about it. I will begin improving myself to
success in my life.
