as my personal experience
says NO.

My Experience
I took Spanish in high
school and minored in it in
college.

I moved to Spain and was

shocked to discover I
COULDNT ACTUALLY
COMMUNICATE EASILY IN
SPANISH!

How the brain acquires language

Traditional classroom methods dont

work very well because we arent
learning facts, we are learning
language.

Comprehensible Input- That means me

talking to you in Spanish in a way you
can understand.

Negotiation of Meaning- That means

you listening to the language and trying
to understand. (Just like working out,
this can be uncomfortable at first!)

What you can expect from this class

1.

So that you have a real shot at acquiring some

Spanish you can actually use, after this class you
can expect me to use Spanish 90% of the time.

2.

If it isnt fun to teach it probably isnt fun to

learn. I promise to keep the boring stuff to a
minimum.

3.

I didnt like homework anymore that you do. As

long as you work hard and dont waste time, you
should have plenty of time to finish your work in
class. **So remember, you are only wasting your

Basic Format of Class

Introduction 5 minutes

Presentation (the less fun part) 20 minutes or less

Practice (I LOVE Games) 40 minutes

BREAK (If everyone has participated and followed the rules) 5

minutes

Produce ( This is the part where you show me you can use what you
have learned) 15 minutes

Reflection (We talk about what we learned and what we need to

practice more) 5 minutes

Seating Charts
You

will have assigned seats, but I will

change them every 6 weeks.
Feel free to talk to me about your
preferences, Ill take them into
consideration.

Phones

Sometimes, I think it can be useful to use phones in class.

You may only use phones when I tell you it is permitted.
I think you are mature enough to manage your own
behavior, therefore I will not collect phones at the
beginning of class (please dont make me!).

However, if I see any phones being used during

presentation time, I will put the phone in PHONE JAIL until
the end of class. 2nd time I keep it until the end of the day.
3rd time it goes to your AP.

If at any other point I see a student inappropriately using

their phone in class, I will put the phone in PHONE JAIL
until the end of class.

If there are more that 2 phones in PHONE JAIL after

practice, the class loses break time for that day.

nearly every day to have fun and
to save time.
Please

put them up neatly when

you are finished with them.

Turning in Work
Please turn in all of your
classwork and late work in
the file for your classwork
located on the table by
the door.

Include your name (first

and last name), the date,
and your period number.
Failure to do so results in
-5 points.

Makeup/ Late Work Binder

If

you miss a class, see the makeup binder

located on the table by the door.

Flip

to the last class section.

Read

the instructions for makeup work, and

collect any handouts or work sheets from
the binder.

Makeup

work is due during the next class

period. Any late work will automatically

Bathroom Pass
Each

student will be allowed to use the bathroom

pass 2X during every 6 week period.

No

student will be allowed to use the bathroom

during the presentation portion of the class.

To use

the pass, you must first put your cell phone

in the phone jail.

Only

one student may use the pass at a time.

Tutoring
If

you do not understand something or need

to makeup work, you may come to tutoring
every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:45- 4.

If

this time will not work for you please let

me know and I can arrange another time to
assist you.

Classroom Website
I

will try to put as much of the

content as possible on the
website. That includes, reviews,
videos, and PowerPoints.
I

will also include additional

materials that you may use to
prepare for tests and quizzes of
for additional practice.

Miss Bs Pet Peeves

1. I like talking and many times I have no problem

with you working in pairs or asking each other
questions. However, when you talk during
instructions or during the presentation portion of
the class it distracts other students and means I
have to repeat myself many times. This can be
frustrating.

2. School is hard enough, so lets be nice to each

other!

3. If you dont understand, or you dislike the way

I am doing something I really want to hear about
it so I can improve. However, there is a time and a
place for it, so please dont disrupt the class or
interrupt me without raising your hand.

as we go through the semester some of
these procedures may need to be
changed.
