Islam is the belief in the God Allah. It is

faith, prayer, alms, fasting, and
pilgrimage. Islam is monotheistic, their
only God is Allah. The sacred literature of
Islam is the Quran which is believed to
be a recitation of what God revealed to
Muhammad through the angel Gabriel

is no central authority in the religion
(priest, minister, etc.). Muslims devote
their lives to Allah and live their life to the

Christianity and Judaism, believing in
God. Also, Muslims worship on their
hands and knees.

Judaism

Judaism was founded by Abraham


around 1500 BCE. Judaism is the belief in
Yahweh (God) and that he loves and
protects people. People in return serve
and worship God. Judaism is monotheistic
with Yahweh being the only God. The
sacred literature of Judaism is the Hebrew
Bible which includes the Torah. Judaisms
effect on society is that people serve God
by living by the Torah.

Hinduism

Hinduism was founded by the


migration of people to the Indus River
Valley between 750 and 550 BCE. The
main beliefs of Hinduism are karma, and
reincarnation, the belief that your spirit
will begin a new life in a new form after
your biological death. Hinduism is a
polytheistic religion but the main gods

Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. There is no


sacred book for Hinduism, but there are
sacred texts which include the Vedas and
the Puranas. Hinduisms effect on society
is a strengthened caste system and a
strict lifestyle. One
modern day tradition
of Hinduism is that
marriages are within
their own caste.
Hinduism is started
in India and currently has 820 million
followers.

Buddhisms effect on society is that it


changed its followers way of life and
their pursuit of nirvana. It also taught
people to meditate and
connect with nature.
Modern day traditions
of Buddhism are
meditation and temple
worship. Buddhism began in northeast
India and spread to the rest of Asia, then
the world. Lastly, Buddhism believes in
the Four Noble Truths which includes the
Eightfold Path.

Buddhism

Buddhism was founded by Buddha


around 600 to 500 BCE. The main beliefs
of Buddhism are the achieving of nirvana
and inner peace. Also, it deletes the
attachment to earthly possessions. There
is no one God in Buddhism; Buddha is the
Siddhartha. Buddhism doesnt have a
religious book but has sacred texts
including the Dhammapada.
