When I first started modelling my space

station, I was creating the base shape of
each corridor and then adding many
edge loops which I then extruded to
create the detail on the station.

However, by adding these edge loops

meant that firstly, my model would have
far too many faces and secondly, would
prove very hard when coming to UV
mapping the model.
I was also attempting to create the
exterior and interior of the space station in
one model consequently creating more
unwanted faces.

To solve this problem, I decided to go

back to my smooth corridor base shape.
Then, instead of trying to extrude from
this piece of geometry, I created a

number of different sized cubes and

aligned them in the positions I wanted on
the base shape to create the detail of
the space station.
This then reduced the number of faces
on the model and gave me a simpler

task when UV mapping.

I also created two separate models; one
for the exterior of the station, one for the
interior. This also saved on high amounts
of geometry.
