One Small

Change
(OSC)
Chrie Lindhardt
&
Hailey Richins

Justification of Problem

Incentivized employee wellness benefit - $100

The program is offered as a didactic lecture or *webinar

Participants must demonstrate knowledge of:

The webinar is only available in a short window of time before the end of the fiscal
year
The lecture is only done in person and it is not readily available to all eligible
employees at all times

The Stages of Change (Transtheoretical Model)

Healthy habits, as detailed in the lecture

They must also apply the knowledge by choosing a small change to

implement for 21 days (the remainder of the program)
The program is not currently assessing knowledge, skills, and
application

An asynchronous, interactive module is needed to: 1) remain accessible, 2) evaluate

effectiveness, 3) create an interactive learning environment that will open the
possibility of knowledge transfer

Supports content in the OSC Program and the Transtheoretical Model (Stages of Change)

Supports transfer - People in a stage in one area are more likely to be in the same stage in
other area(s) of their lives

Research Question
Will a technology-based delivery method of the OSC
program to the staff and faculty at SLCC produce better
learning outcomes as measured by Tylkas Intuitive Eating
Scale and a knowledge evaluation that will be created with
the SME.

Methods

True Experimental Design

Two sessions of OSC.
-Current in-person
-Online module

Random sampling and random assignment

Methods

Participants

SLCC Faculty & Staff eligible to receive wellness incentives

**Actual Eligible SLCC employees

Methods

Instrumentation

Pre Test on knowledge and attitudes

Collect demographic information
Post Test on knowledge and attitudes
Pre and Post on knowledge is non-existing
create summative assessment and meet with subject matter expert for reliability
Cronbachs alpha
Pre & Post on attitudes well use Tylkas intuitive eating scale

Methods

Procedures

Recruitment & Retention

Recruit via Wellness Coordinator
Self-paced module with time limit
Module utilizes the Levels of Knowledge: Surface Level, Textbase Level, and
Situation Model
Administration of the Instrument
The control group content will be delivered by the Wellness Coordinator

The intervention content will be housed online, the Wellness Coordinator will give the
treatment group access to the module
Pre & Post tests - will include demographic information questions
Incentive $$$

Methods

Threats
History Threat
no solution, just noting
Selection Threat
Minimize this threat by randomly assigning conditions to all volunteer
participants
Subject Attrition
We will collect demographic data to compare dropouts to completers

Methods

Data Analysis

Two by two ANOVA

Assessment for knowledge - Tylkas Intuitive Eating Scale & a Likert-type knowledge
assessment that will be created with the SME (done pre & post)
Knowledge assessment results will be evaluated by the Wellness Coordinator
Within Factor (Pre & Post)
Between-Subjects factor

The End!
