Keywords : Indigenous, ornamental fish, fish diversity
Ormamental fishes are attractive and colourful fishes that are kept as pet in
aquarium for recreation purpose. In the present study, different rivers and
water bodies of Terai-Duars region of West Bengal have been thoroughly
surveyed to record ornamental fishes. A total of 53 indigenous ornamental
fish species belonging to 33 genera, 19 families were collected and identi-
fied during the survey period. Among all the collected fishes order
cypriniformes showed the maximum species variation, followed by
perciformes and siluriformes. The study shows that the endemic ornamen-
tal ichthyofauna are needed to be conserved.

der bias, which forms an inherent part of the global society. Women in
fishing communities do not enjoy the status of men. They play a subordi-
nate role to their husband and by the culture norms they are expected to
abide by decisions made by male member. The basic goal for women in
fisheries development is to make them equal partners and self-reliant par-
ticipants in the process of improving their own and their families nutri-
tional and living standards. Fisherwomen need to be given the opportunity
to acquire appropriate knowledge, develop adequate skills and appropriate
technologies enabling them to make economic and social contribution.
The involvement of women in fishery activities varies greatly between
different parts of the region due to differences in cultural and social norms.
Generally they do not participate in fishing operations on board of vessels,
but land-based fishery related activities like marketing are being done by
them. Womenfolk could be highly useful in preparation of value-added
products, fish drying and processing, marketing of fish and food products
etc. The present study highlights the participation of women in fisheries
sector in West Bengal. It is expected that the study will help to realize their
potential for the larger benefits of the society.

Keywords : Reservoir, phytoplankton, diversity indices
In the present investigation, the phytoplankton diversity, density and peri-
odicity have been studied to assess the nature of aquatic flora of the Sarni
reservoir, Madhya Pradesh. The phytoplankton assemblage of 26 species
was found to be low in overall density (ranging from 30-336 units/litre).
The Bacillariophyceae (diatoms) was the most dominant group followed by
Cyanophyceae (blue green algae) and Chlorophycae (green algae) with
