cannot be recovered at any price.

Types of Nature Destruction

Destroying nature is when you hurt the worlds natural
ecosystem. There are three main types of destruction we
will be focusing on.
1) Colony Collapse Disorder
2) Deforestation
3) Air Pollution

Colony Collapse Disorder:

an
unknown phenomenon where worker honeybees
colonies
disappear.
Up to 90% of
the migratory honeybee colonies will disappear
In non-migratory colonies, over 50% of the colony will disappear
Potential Causes Of CCD:
Mites
lack of diversity in nectar
sublethal effects of pesticide
stressful situations
weakened immune systems

Deforestation
of the worlds forest have been cleared
About the land size of Panama is lost each year
30% of the worlds forests still exist
all rainforests will be lost in the next 100 years

Air Pollution
Pollutants: carbon dioxide, methane, smoke, & sulfur dioxide
Comes from: cars, factories, & planes
Hurts plants: more susceptible to disease and damage
Hurts humans: irritates throat & makes breathing difficult

Portable
Rooftop
Gardens
To garden is to believe in
tomorrow.

How It Will Help

Our portable garden is designed to help solve the three main types of
destruction.
1) CCD: We planted plants that appeal to and attract bees. Most plants have been sprayed with
harmful chemicals that repels and kills bees. Our plants will be natural and have no chemicals
on them.
2) Deforestation: The main reason for deforestation is subsistence farming. This is when people
farm for themselves and family. When doing this, people cut down and burn trees to make
room for their crops. Our portable garden will help prevent this because people will be able to
grow veggies and other items in their box.
3) Air Pollution: The plants in our garden take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen. This will

use ground control cloth instead of jute
time
use more styrofoam to keep it light and fill up space
Find a lighter soil
Test if these plants work to see if we need to change them
