Asthma Patient Counseling Scenario

24 y/o M
Patient name: AJ
Dx with asthma (1 year)
Background:
The patient came to the pharmacy requesting refill on his Albuterol. You notice that he has been
refilling his Albuterol every 1 month. When you ask how he has been doing, he has replied that
his asthma is all right. You ask him to explain how he takes his medication to verify his asthma
is indeed under control. He says that he takes the inhaler 2 puffs every 4-6 hours around the
clock, and uses the purple circle medication when he cant breath suddenly while cleaning. He
doesnt like having to use the purple medication because it tastes bitter.
His medication profile has the following:
Advair DPI (dry powder inhaler) 100/50 I puff twice daily
Albuterol HFA 90mcg I - II puffs Q4-6h as needed
