At the onset we would like to thank and compliment you for the wonderful learning
experience offered by the faculty and staff at Indian Institute of technology, Roorkee.
The two years stay at this premier institute has immensely enhanced our
understanding of the Structural Engineering discipline.
2. Unfortunately, the handling of the dissertation work has forced us to leave our Alma
mater on a sad note.
3. It is an established fact that the best ranking students prefer to opt for structural
Engineering stream than any other branch of Civil Engineering. In spite of that the
grading awarded for the structural Engineering branch reflects irrationality and
conflict with the above fact. A comparison of various branches of Civil Engineering
are presented below

4. Notwithstanding the comparison of various branches of Civil Engineering, the grades
awarded in Structural Engineering Group initially have been tempered selectively.
Both the grade sheets, original and modified, are attached as Appx A and B with
this application for your ready reference. A closer look highlights the following
a. All students with C+/ C grades have been upgraded to a minimum grading of
B, which is rational enough considering the grades of other branches of Civil
Engineering. The same was communicated to us by the OC M Tech
(Structural Engineering and Building Tech) as well and we had no objection to
it.

b. Over and above the upgradation across the board fron C+/C to B, it was
heartening to see selective preferential upgradation of certain students which is
highly objectionable.
5. Such acts of favouritism surely dent the reputation of the Institute and also give a
wrong signal to the environment and particularly to the student community.
6. We have brought this to your notice because we wish well for our Alma mater and
want your intervention for streamlining the system , which is well within your domain
and preview.
