Nature of Course
Assignments
All assignments will have specific due dates and students are expected to
respect these dates. Assignments must be submitted at the beginning of
the class on the due date.
Extensions may be granted to students under special circumstances
provided they negotiate this with their teacher at least one day prior to the
due date.
If a student is absent due to illness, the assignment must be handed in on
the day the student returns to school.
If a student does not hand in an assignment of the arranged date, contact
with a parent or guardian will be made, and alternate evaluation
opportunities will be explored.
Tests and Quizzes
Students are expected to be present on test days. Those students who
know in advance that they will be away on the day of a test are expected to
make alternate arrangements with their teacher to complete the test.
Students who have a legitimate reason for missing a test will be given the
opportunity to complete a test on the day of their return. (If the test has

already been given back to the class, teachers should consider giving an
alternate test.)
Students who do not have a legitimate reason for missing a test may be
given a mark of zero.
In cases of school business such as a field trip, the student must notify the
subject teachers in advance of the field trip.
The subject teacher may provide an opportunity for the student to write the
test at an alternate time. Students are expected to complete all
evaluations. If a student chooses not to complete a task, a mark of
0 may be assigned.
Homework
Students will be assigned homework regularly and it is their responsibility to
know what was assigned and to complete the work. It is important to use
your agenda to record your assignments.
Attendance
Regular attendance is necessary for success! A phone call or note from a
parent is needed to justify an absence.
Three unjustified absences result in a referral to the Vice-Principal. All
missed work is to be made up. Additional work may be assigned at the
discretion of the teacher.
Notebooks
Students will be required to keep a separate binder for their Learning
Strategies notes. This notebook must be present for each Learning
Strategies class and it must contain the following: all handouts given in
class, all notes taken, all homework assignments, and all tests and written
assignments. Notebooks should be neatly organized and they should use
dividers for each section. Notebooks will be checked on a regular basis.
Agenda
Students will be given an agenda during homeroom, which must be present
during every class. Learning to organise your time is essential for success.
As such, students will be required to record their homework in their agenda
each day use it to plan long term assignments.
