Areas of strength:
Comparing to last semester clinical, you have evidenced much growth in the area of assessment, time management, and
general comfort level (specifically with this population). Demonstrates working knowledge of assessments,
pathophysiology, and nursing care for this population. You learned the charting system quickly, and demonstrated
competence in passing medications. You fully engaged in the clinical setting. Demonstrated accountability for actions.
Interacted with respect toward patients/families, peers and staff. Conscious of patient safety and quality of care to all
patients
Per student:
I was able to observe a cesarean birth and a vaginal birth. I also observed 3 different circumcisions all with different techniques by the
pediatrician. I performed a head to toe assessment on the mother post-partum, delivered medications, and took vital signs. I documented every
hour while on post-partum and did hourly rounds. I performed vitals on a newborn and observed a head to toe assessment by both an RN and a
pediatrician. I observed the first bath of a newborn and assisted. I administered a vitamin K shot IM to a newborn. I was able to apply knowledge
learned in both class and simulation into the clinical setting and found it to be very helpful in practice. This clinical helped me to become a more
confident student nurse by providing me the opportunity to work with a population that we have not cared for before and giving me more
experience in patient care.

Areas for growth:

Continue to improve in application of knowledge, transitioning from classroom to clinical setting.
Gaining confidence in performing skills.
Per student:
I could improve on performing head to toe assessments of both the mother and the newborn. I also could improve on performing a newborn bath
more independently. It will take me more time to be capable of assessing patients potential needs in all areas of womens health.

1/24 participated in simulation.

1/26 came to clinical prepared. Actively participated in post-conference discussions. Mastered charting system,
and giving PO meds.
2/2 cared for mother/baby dyad who were discharged. L&D was busy; student was allowed to observe
cesarean.
2/9 came to clinical with preceptor sheet completed. Nursery was not too busy. Observed circumcision.
Rounded with pediatrician. Was pulled to L&D to observe a cesarean.
2/16 came to clinical with preceptor sheet completed. Busy in L&D. Observed labor, vaginal delivery.
