The room behind this door contains process blowers that provide compressed air for various treatment processes
at the JCEC. The blowers take regular air from the outside and compress it to high pressures for use in various
processes. Compressed air is utilized in many ways at the JCEC plant. The compressed air is primarily used in the
aeration process and in the membrane basins. It is also used in the post aeration process as well as two locations
where compressed air is used for mixing of the water as it travels through the plant.
Because the blowers that compress air are very loud when they operate, this room has been designed with special
features to prevent the loud noise from bothering the neighboring community. The incoming air travels through a
plenum with a series of baffle walls to prevent noise from escaping, the blowers all have intake and outlet silencers
to reduce noise and equipment enclosures are provided around the noiser blowers. In addition, the building has
been constructed with special acoustical louvers and sound attenuating concrete block. If you enter the room it is
so loud that you have to wear ear protection but outside the building you can barely hear the equipment operating.
Seven large blowers that provide compressed air throughout All air going to the blowers is taken in from outside
the treatment process are located in the blower room of the building through acoustical louvers
