potentials,andcranialnerveandreflexactionpotential.Actionpotentialinamultipolarneuron,
wherethefirstpartoftheaxonistriggeredbyastimulusandrespondsintransmittingmillivolts
acrossthecellmembrane,riseandfallataconstantpace(allornothing).Depolarizationisthe
reproductionofamembrane'srestingpotential,sothatthemembranebecomeslessnegative.
Repolarizationisthestateintheactionpotentialprocessthatreturnsmembranepotentialback
toitsnegativevoltageafterthedepolarizationprocesshasoccurredbyselectivelyopeningand
closingofthepotassiumchannelsonthecellmembrane.Theperiodwhenaxonscantbe
stimulatedtogenerateanewactionpotentialiscalledtherefractoryperiodwhichlimitsimpulses
