Soundscape

By: Deanna Crisbacher

Introduction
The importance of sound in films and video games can be unintentionally
overlooked despite its vital importance, it can make or break a film or game. If
done well it can easily immerse an audience and make them feel more involved
in the film or game. However, if sound design is ignored it can result in poorly
made effects and music that can ruin the audiences experience.

For the Soundscape project, each student was assigned a set of three abstract
images. Using these pictures as inspiration, we were to create 30 second
soundscapes using sounds we recorded and edited ourselves. After seeing my
three images, I chose to create brainstorms of the words that immediately
popped into my head. After revisiting my brainstorms multiple times, I generated
mind-maps for each image. The following mind-maps are various words that
influenced which sounds I recorded and how I edited them in Adobe Audition in
order to achieve the soundscape I imagined each image would have.
