Class Test 1
Full Marks: 20
Time: 60 Minute
1. Consider a wireless network with the following data:
Total population:
10,00,000
Subscriber penetration:
40%
Average call holding time for mobile-to-land and land-to-mobile calls: 100 seconds
Average call holding time for mobile-to-mobile call: 180 seconds
Average calls per hour for mobile-to-land and : 3 calls
Average calls per hour for mobile-to-mobile:
4 calls
Traffic distribution:
o Mobile-to-land: 50% o Mobile-to-mobile: 50%
(a) Calculate total traffic in Erlangs .
(b)If each switch can handle 2000 Erlangs, how many switches are required in the network?

2. What is the need of cell in Mobile communication system ? Derive the expression for co-channel interference
reduction factor.
[2+3]
4. A suburb has an area of 1500 square km and is covered by a cellular system that uses a 7-reuse
pattern. Each cell has a radius of 4 km and the city is allocated 50 MHz of spectrum with full duplex channel
bandwidth of 50 kHz. Assume a GoS of 2% for an Erlang B system and a traffic load per user of 0.03
Erlangs calculate: (a) The number of channels per cell. (b) The maximum carried traffic ,(c) Traffic intensity of
each cell (d) Total number of users that can be served for 2% GoS (e) Number of mobiles per channel
