Calculation Examples

BSW Example
Assume a fluid flow rate of 20 bbl/day, a 10% BSW, and a 0% shrinkage. The oil and water
production is calculated as follows:

BSW and Shrinkage Example

Assume a fluid flow rate of 20 bbl/day. Shrinkage is 4% and BSW is 8%. What are the oil and
water rates?

Condensate Example
Assume a HP condensate rate of 20 bbl/day and shrinkage of 8%. The LP Condensate Rate is
calculated as follows:

CGR Example

The test rates for a particular time of the test are as follows:

Gas Meter #1 = 1.92 mmscf/day

Gas Meter #2 = 1.78 mmscf/day

Condensate Meter #1 = 56 bbl/day

All three meters are Included in the Totals.

CGR = Total Condensate Rate / Total Gas Rate
= 56 bbl/day / (1.92 + 1.78) mmscf/day
= 15.1 bbl / mmscf

Water Cut Example

Assume a well is producing 10 bbl/day of fluid with a BSW of 5%. The well is also producing 2
bbl/day of water from the water leg of the separator. What is the water cut?
BSW Water = 10 * 0.05 = 0.5 bbl/day
Main Water = 2 bbl /day
Total Water = 2 + 0.5 = 2.5 bbl/day
Total Oil = 10 * (1 - 0.05) = 9.5 bbl / day
Water Cut = 2.5 / (2.5 + 9.5) * 100% = 20.8%

GOR Example
The test rates for a particular point in time during the test are as follows:

Gas Meter #1 = 1.55 MMscf/day

Gas Meter #2 = 0.73 MMscf/day

Oil Meter #1 = 750 bbl/day

All three meters are Included in the Totals.

GOR = Total Gas Rate / Total Oil Rate

= (1.55 + 0.73) / 750

= 0.304 MMscf / bbl or 3.04 mscf / bbl

WGR Example
The test rates for a particular time of the test are as follows:

Gas Meter #1 = 4.99 MMscf/day

Gas Meter #2 = 1.73 MMscf/day

Water Meter #1 = 16 bbl/day

Water Meter # 2 = 6 bbl/day

The operator chose to exclude Water Meter #2, therefore only three meters are included in the
totals. (Water Meter #2 was not included, so its rate is not part of the WGR calculation).
WGR
= 16 bbl/day / (4.99 + 1.73) MMscf/day
= 2.38 bbl / MMscf
If Water Meter #2 had been selected to be Included in Totals:
WGR
= (16 + 6) / (4.99 + 1.73)
= 3.27 bbl/MMscf

WOR Example
The test rates for a particular point in time during the test are as follows:

Water Meter #1 = 155 bbl/day

Oil Meter #1 = 750 bbl/day

All three meters are Included in the Totals.

WOR = Total Water Rate / Total Oil Rate

= (155) / 750
= 0.207 bbl water / bbl oil
Interpolation is defined as:
The assignment of values to points intermediate to two data points. Interpolation is used to fill in
missing data in well logs and other data sets
Values are interpolated for time entries without corresponding meter readings. This feature can
be toggeled on or off in the advanced tab under preferances <link to preferances>. An example of
interpolated values is in the following picture:
