Book Fair
Book Fair will be on in the school from Thursday 26th February 2nd March. Parents are
welcome to buy books in the morning from 8.50-9.10a.m., at 1.50p.m. and again at
2.50p.m. each day. Book tokens of 1.50 are limited but are available on first come
first served basis. We will involve each class in various activities throughout the Book
Fair. Each class will be read to by a different teacher each day
Seachtain na Gaeilge
Seachtain na Gaeilge will take place from March 1st -16th. Children will be encouraged
to use their Gaeilge frequently throughout the school day. All classes will learn some
Irish songs and dances. Fifth and Sixth class will teach Walls of Limerick to Junior
classes. All classes will come together for a ceil.

Healthy Eating Policy


The healthy eating policy is currently being discussed by the Board of Management.
Some of our parents have kindly offered to organize a Healthy Eating Fun Day on
March 1st
We are also trying to organize a nutritionalist to come and give a talk to parents Date
and time to be confirmed.

Active Flag
Donard N.S. is currently beginning the process to apply for an active flag. Ms. O
Rourke is working on this project. She has a committee chosen to help her with the
following members: Cathal Moore 1st class, Alannah Sheridan 2nd class, Adam Kelly 3rd
class, Sinead Flood 3rd class, Ross Sheridan 4th class, Erica Flynn 5th class, Liam
Metcalfe 5th class, Conor O Neill 6th class Kate Tyrrell 6th class. Mary Kelly and Aisling
Grace are the community representatives.
Fire Safety
Some of the local firemen from Dunlavin gave a talk on the importance of fire safety to
3rd and 4th class. We also completed a fire drill in early February and will have another
drill in March.
School Improvement Plan
We are continuing the SIP in, English with the emphasis on Inference. 2nd to 6th classes
are being introduced to strategies which help with Inference. We are continuing with
Maths with an emphasis on problem solving using RUCSAC, Read Underline Choose
Solve Answer Check. This term, the third subject we hope to work on is P.E. we will be
sending home a questionnaire to parents for their input to P.E. in the school. The
children from 2nd 6th class will also complete a questionnaire on P.E. This questionnaire
will also be used to help acquire the Active Flag.
F.A.I
Mr. Glynn is entering two teams in the F.A.I. school soccer completion. Fifth and sixth
class boys and girls will participate. Dates of matches will be announced shortly.
Green Schools
We will resume WOW on Wednesday 2nd March. We are currently working towards the
Bio Diversity Flag. Ms Higgins is aiming to organize a day of action in May.

Confession: Davidstown Church 14th April
Communion: Donard Church 14th May

Nigel Gillis (photographer) is booked to take photographs on Tuesday 17 th May. He will


also take Communion photographs.
Music Generation
Anthony has now taken over the Choral Singing with 2nd 6th class from Victoria Massey.
