3rd Sunday of Lent

The family of St. Joseph continues the same path

that our ancestors started for us, and I am not referring
to the ones who started our parish back in 1911. I refer
farther back to our ancestors in the old testament. When
Moses encountered God in the burning bush, he heard
God saying, I know well what [my people] are
suffering, and Moses was entrusted with the mission to
bring people back to God. This mission is the same one
that we have today. As a parish, individually and
communally, as a family or as a town, we are walking a
path out of suffering back to God.
This is a journey of faith that comes not without
sacrifice and hard work. We have to defeat every
obstacle that keeps us from God, and the way Jesus put
it, sounds even more sacrificial, for he said in the parable
of this Sunday: For three years now I have come in
search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none. So
cut it down. Friends, we are the fig tree, and we cannot
remain fruitless.
As I shared a few weeks ago, the Archbishop has
asked me to start a new assignment beginning July 1,
2016. This announcement was a shock for all of us, and
it has affected, I believe, the momentum that our parish
was starting to pick up. I have been moved by all the
support and the concerned that has been expressed. The
sad part is that many have lost the enthusiasm to
continue working.
For this reason, the St. Joseph Parish Council, which
is a group of volunteers from our own parish that helps
me set the vision for our community, has scheduled a
meeting to address any concerns regarding the future of
the parish and the Archbishops decision to move me to
another assignment. This meeting will take place on
Thursday, March 3, 2016, in the church at 7:00 p.m.
Everyone is welcome. The St. Joseph Parish Council and
myself will be present to conduct the meeting.
My wish is that we continue to work on the projects
that respond to the physical and spiritual needs of our
parish. I ask everyone not to fall into discouragement. I
invite you to, instead, be a fig tree that bears fruit. My
commitment is to continue to work for as long as the
Archbishop asks me to do so and to walk with you this
journey of faith.

La familia de St. Joseph continua el mismo camino

que nuestros ancestros caminaron, y no estoy hablando
de quienes empezaron la parroquia de St. Joseph en
1911. Me refiero ms bien a nuestros ancestros del
antiguo testamento. Cuando Moiss se encontr con
Dios en el arbusto ardiente, escuch a Dios que dijo: S
muy bien lo que mi pueblo sufre, y se le encargo a
Moiss la misin de traer a la gente de regreso a Dios.
Esta es la misma misin que tenemos hoy. Como
parroquia, individual o comunalmente, como familia o
como pueblo, estamos en el camino lejos del sufrimiento
y hacia Dios.
Esta es una jornada de fe que no sucede sin
sacrificio o trabajo duro. Tenemos que vencer cada
obstculo que nos aleja de Dios, y el modo en que Jess
lo pone, suena an ms sacrificial en la parbola de este
domingo: Durante tres aos seguidos he venido a
buscar higos en esta higuera y no los he encontrado.
Crtala. Queridos amigos, nosotros somos la higuera, y
no podemos permanecer sin dar frutos.
Como saben, el arzobispo me ha pedido que valla a
otra parroquia en Julio 1, 2016. Este anuncio fue una
sorpresa para todos nosotros, y ha afectado, creo yo, el
ritmo positivo que la parroquia empezaba a tomar. Me
ha conmovido todo el apoyo y las preocupaciones que
ustedes me han expresado. La parte triste es que muchos
han perdido el entusiasmo para seguir trabajando.
Por esta razn, el Concilio Parroquial de St. Joseph,
el cual es un grupo de voluntarios de nuestra propia
parroquia que me ayuda a establecer la visin para
nuestra comunidad, ha convocado una reunin para
poder responder cualquier inquietudes que tenga que ver
con el futuro de la parroquia y la decisin del arzobispo
de haberme asignado a otro lugar. La reunin ser el
jueves, Marzo 3, 2016, en la iglesia a las 7:00 p.m.
Todos son invitados a participar. El Concilio Parroquial
y yo estaremos dirigiendo la reunin.
Mi deseo es que continuemos trabajando en los
proyectos que responden a las necesidades fsicas y
espirituales de nuestra parroquia. Les pido que no
caigamos en desanimo. Los invito, al contrario, a ser la
higuera que da fruto. Mi compromiso es continuar
trabajando por el tiempo que el arzobispo me lo pida, y
caminar con ustedes esta jornada de fe. Nos vemos el
jueves!
