Element of art: Color

Color has three properties:

Hue, Value, intensity/saturation
Example: RED

Hue:straightoutofthetraywillbethebrightest,puresthue
Value:Addingwaterwilldiminishthevalue
Intensity:Addingacolorscomplementwilldecreaseintensity/saturation

How do we achieve these

qualities in watercolor?

Hue: straight out of the tray will be the

brightest, purest hue
Value: Adding water will diminish the
value
Intensity: Adding a colors complement
will decrease intensity/saturation

Color Schemes (set of

colors)
Monochromatic: A composition using a
single hue, many values of that Hue

Our inspiration: Pop Art

Originated in England with a group of
artists commenting on American popular
culture.
Pop art was not serious, but used as
subjects all the commercial stuff that is
all around us: mass produced products,
celebrities, consumer culture.

One of the first Pop Art artists:

Richard Hamilton (Just what is it that makes
todays home so different, so appealing?)
