Full Swing Ahead!

Weve been having some super fun
times here in the past four months with
TBSADAA. After Homecoming at Ohio University
ended in October, November came in at full
swing with both Varsity Show and Palace
Theatre performances for the Marching 110.
Our members were more than happy to
volunteer their time and energy to help the
active sisters of Alpha Delta run the
merchandise table at both these shows. These
performances are the last shows of the season
for the Marching 110 and showcases all the
songs and dances performed throughout the
season.
We helped sell the active Alpha Deltas
merchandise during these performances to help
take the some of the stress off of the active
sisters who are busy performing. Our members
who were able to help enjoyed the chance to
do some service. We stayed at the table
through the entire performance, but are able to
still hear the music.
This year, in addition to the yearly tour
shirts and band day shirts, a new type of

merchandise was added. One of the active

sisters of Alpha Delta, Emelia Douglas, who is an
exceptional artist, created an array of different
paintings on sheets of music. Each painting is of
a different animal on a different song and a
Diamond Ohio painted on Stand Up and Cheer,
Ohio University Marching Bands Fight Song.
They were a very big hit with the crowds. If you
would like to purchase any of these painting
you can contact Emelia at
emeliaambra@gmail.com.

With My Sisters I am Best

During December we had our first
planned sisterhood social event for an attempt
to have our members get a chance to hang out
together. The plan was to meet at the
Columbus Zoo for the Christmas lights, on a
Saturday. A few sisters made it to the zoo early,
but some did not and instead ended up in
traffic. So, instead of waiting in traffic, plans
were changed to meet up in the Arena district
for dinner and walking along the Short North.
Luckily, the sisters who were able to make it to
the zoo were also able to meet up with other

sisters in the Short North for some time. Our

next planned social is a Harry Potter Cabin in
the woods set for June 2016 in Hocking Hills.

Alumni Spotlight
The alumni spotlight is an opportunity
to highlight an alumni member of the Alpha
Delta chapter. This months edition focuses on a
member of TBSADAA, Lisa Grogan.
She currently lives in Cincinnati, Ohio
with her husband, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and works at
Cincinnati Childrens Hospital as a 1:1 Mental
Health Specialist. She works with children with
aggressive behaviors by providing support and
stabilization during their medical admissions
and she is currently in the process of applying to
graduate school to obtain her doctorate in
psychology.
During her time at Ohio University, Lisa
marched flag for one year in the Ohio University
Marching 110. Afterwards, she played bassoon
in University Concert Band every quarter until
graduation.
Lisa graduated with her BA in
psychology, a minor in sociology, and a
certificate in Italian Studies from Ohio
University in 2010. She originally wanted to
pursue a degree in music therapy, but realized
early on that practicing enough to be a music
major was not for her. After finishing her
undergraduate degree at OU, she attended
Graduate School at Eastern Kentucky University
and obtained her Masters in Clinical
Psychology. During her time at EKU, she did
practical work with female substance abusers in
a long-term rehabilitation center. She loved the
work and knew she wanted to make a career
out of it. Unfortunately, she knew there was
little involvement from the formal psychological
community in recovery programs; they are
mostly run by individuals who are in recovery
personally.
Lisa has been out of school for almost
four years now, working first as an outpatient

mental health therapist seven months, then as

a 1:1 Mental Health Specialist for about 2 and a
half years. She plans to receive her doctorate
degree in psychology to work to improve care
and support for individuals with complex
medical and behavioral needs.
Lisa has developed connections with
the Behavioral Safety Team in the Department
of Psychiatry at Cincinnati Childrens Hospital
Medical Center, the Psychology Department at
EKU from her graduate work, P&G, Crayons to
Computers, teaching connections from her
mom (a teacher for 33 years), and legal aid
connections through personal friends.
The advice Lisa would give to
graduating seniors of Alpha Delta are to stay in
touch with the friends youve made because it
gets harder after graduation, you dont see
each other every week and you get busy with
graduate school and work. Its easy to isolate
yourself and lose touch with each other. Make
the effort to stay in each others lives after
college.
During her time as an Active member of
Alpha Delta chapter at Ohio University, Lisa was
Fundraising Head her senior year (2009-2010).
She organized Jumpathon, a yearly event in the
spring where members set up a trampoline on
College Green and allow people to jump for
donations.
Her favorite memory during her time as
an undergraduate student was living with Tara
Givens and Jamie (Mathes) Schumacher, and
simply hanging out and being silly with other
sisters.

Alumni Memories
By Theresa Graves
Its hard to describe the feeling I get
each time I arrive in Athens. Its nothing short of
magical. Nostalgia and pride overwhelm me
with every brick, and it always feels like home. I
was lucky enough to spend nearly twelve years
as an Athenian, both in my years as a student
and as a professional. It was a wonderful period
of my life that I will always cherish.
As a freshman at OHIO, I knew that
Athens and the university would be a very
special part of my life. The experiences I had
early on shaped me and set my trajectory in
college and for my future. Those experiences
came in the form of the Marching 110 and,
subsequently, Tau Beta Sigma. At the time, I did
not know how much influence these
organizations would have on my life.
Lets start with Ohio University. Aside
from being one of the most beautiful places on
Earth, Ohio University encourages holistic
development of students and promotes lifelong
learning. Alumni of OHIO tend to be friendly,
well-rounded individuals with immeasurable
pride for their school. When youre a Bobcat,
youre family; no matter where you may roam
beyond the borders of Athens. Im a native of
Ohio, but I currently live in Oklahoma
Stillwater, to be exact, but well get to that a
little later. Even though Im living in the far-off
land of OK, I am still surrounded by Bobcats!
Dont believe me? I can name seven people
who once resided in Athens living in Oklahoma
right this moment. Seven! That may seem
insignificant, but to someone who is homesick
for Athens on the regular, its nice to
commiserate with others who know OHIO.
Bobcats are just plain wonderful people. The
bonds formed between Bobcats are endless,
even far from home.

A select few at OHIO have the privilege

of earning membership in the Marching 110.
The five years I spent in the 110 enhanced my
college experience tremendously. Members of
the 110 are taught to have respect for others,
to be mindful of their environment and how
they present themselves, to manage their time
effectively, and to give 110% effort in all that
they do. The Marching 110 provided me with
the sense of discipline needed to excel
academically, within the band, and even
professionally. A family within the family of
OHIO, being an alumnus of the 110 is a lifelong
honor.
Through the Marching 110, I was
introduced to Tau Beta Sigma. It is difficult for
me to even put into words all that Tau Beta
Sigma has meant to me. This amazing
organization dedicated to promoting women in
music and serving collegiate bands has given me
so much. I have learned the value of servant
leadership and the strength of sisterhood. The
values of the sorority, the ideals which we
affectionately refer to as the Eight and Five,
have been an intrinsic part of how Ive lived my
life since I joined in 2002. The qualities of
health, intellect, morality, spirituality, and poise
guide me every day. Tau Beta Sigma provided
me with endless opportunities for personal
growth, leadership, and professional
development. As a Life Member, the values of
Tau Beta Sigma influence my decisions and
allow me to prosper in my career and personal
relationships. I owe a large part of my success
to skills I learned as an Active Member; skills
such as leadership, event planning, and public
speaking. In a favorable twist of fate, I now live
in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where Tau Beta Sigma
got its official start. Seriously, Stillwater Station
is just a short drive away from where I live! Ive
enjoyed getting to know the good folks at
National Headquarters and participating in
events such as the dedication of the Wava
Banes Turner Henry Memorial Garden in 2014.

Upcoming Events!

Executive Council, at National Headquarters in
2014.
Like OHIO and the Marching 110, the
bonds forged between sisters are unbreakable
and unending. I am honored to be an alumna of
these organizations, and Life Member of Tau
Beta Sigma Alpha Delta.
