Literature Review
Simon Stevin, He showed that the force exerted by a liquid on the base of a vessel is
equal to the weight of a liquid column extending from the base to the free surface.
Leonardo da Vinci, in his research in the late 1400s, first demonstrated the use of a
screw jack for lifting loads. Leonardos design used a threaded worm gear, supported on
bearings, that rotated by the turning of a worm shaft to drive a lifting screw to move the
load.
Joseph Whitworth, in his research recognised the need for precision had become as
important in industry as the provision of power.
Frank Henry, in his experiment during the early 1880s in Coaticook, designed a lifting
jack. Like da Vincis jack, it was technological innovation because it was based on the
principle of the ball bearing for supporting a load and transferred rotary motion, through
gearing and a screw, into linear motion for moving the load.
Arthur Osmore Norton, He spotted the potential for Sleepers design and in 1886
hired the young man and the Norton jack was born. Over the coming years the famous
Norton jacks were manufactured at plants in Boston, Coaticook and Moline, Illinois.
Josiah Barrett, He gave the idea for a ratchet jack that would pull barges together to
form a tow. The idea was based on the familiar lever and fulcrum principle.
Methodology
Understood the objective of the project and searched for the best result to solve the problem
statement.
Study the literature review and analyses what implementation can be made to this project
Study and analyse all information and data gathered from various sources and related to with
objective of the project.
Experimentation and simulation where certain experiments are needed to be done in order to
collect and to take note the data and record for improvement.
Generate conceptual design and concept selection to meet the characteristic require and
final conceptual design is obtain.
Phase to detail design process where concept will be enhanced and optimized if there is disability
and problems to produce the final design.
Fabrication and implementations is happen here where it will be develop and brought to life from
the detail design drawing that have chosen.
Next step is to test run whether the prototype can work properly and meet the objective. Thus, the
problem found will be analyse and need to be rework.
Construction Phase
First of all we needed a car chassis with brake pedal system and master cylinder
install in it.
Now the 5 way valve is connected in between the master cylinder and Hyraulic
cylinder near the master cylinder keeping in mind that the oil pipe coming from master
cylinder should be attached to the inlet of valve..
Install the hydraulic cylinders which act as a jack near the wheels.
A non return valve has been used in order to stop the oil returning back.
Now connect the cylinders with the 5 way valve through pipes with a non return
valve in each pipe connecting the cylinders.
The construction of our model has been kept as simple as possible keeping in mind
the abstract of the project and also keeping in mind the cost limitation of the project so
as to justify the prototype model concept and to utilize the maximum resources
available to us.
Construction
WORKING OF INBUILT
HYDRAULIC JACK
. As a vehicles undergo a tyre failure than first we will turn the five-way valve handle
toward the failed tyre jack.
.Now when we push the brake pedal than the fluid from the master cylinder will pass
through the five-way valve and move in the direction of the handle of valve ,this will
make the piston in the hydraulic cylinder(jack) to move down and the tyre start lifting.
The non return check valve is manually opened after replacing the tyre so that the
fluid to go back into the master cylinder and the tyre start coming down to its initial
position.
Applications
The innovation has several advantages and wide scope of
applications:
