Class Overview

This class will be split up into four sections. Section one, consisting of chapters 1-8, is on
Creating America and the American Revolution. Chapters 9-19, section two, are on a Difference
in Economy and A Split Down the Middle. Section three, chapters 20-28, are on Economic
Discord and the Great Depression. The final section is chapters 29-34 are on War, War, and More
War. Class assignments will be given a minimum twice a week. Students will be required to do a
reading assignment, given at the beginning of each chapter, and a chapter assessment, given at
the end of the chapter. More about this assignment will be listed under Chapter Assignments.
Students will be given four (4) exams in this course. One at the end of each nine weeks. More
about this assignment will be listed under Exams. Pop quizzes will be given randomly
throughout the school year. Students will also be required to write a final research paper over a
topic given to them at the beginning of the school year. This will be a randomly selected chapter
from the text. More about this assignment will be listed under Research Paper.

Points System
All of these assignments will be a total of 2,000 points. Breakdown of assignment point system is

Assignments and Requirements for Course
Chapter Assignments

Each Chapter will begin with a reading assignment in which the student will be required to fill in
at least two (2) sentences per heading in the chapter. The Chapter will end with an assessment to
ensure comprehension. This will consist of five (5) questions about the main points in that
chapter.

Exams

Students will be required to complete four (4) section Exams. These will be given at the end of
the first nine weeks, at mid-term, third nine weeks, and finals. The chapter sections are Chapters
1-8, chapters 9-19, chapters 20-28, and chapters 29-34.
Each exam will include at least two (2) of the five (5) chapter assessment questions as well as
three (3) bonus questions about the future section.
Pop Quizzes

Pop quizzes will randomly be given throughout the school year and some of which could be used
as a replacement to your lowest grade (one time use) or extra credit/daily grade. They also will
count to make up the total points of the 1,500 point system.
Research Paper

Students will write a 3-8 page essay of a topic randomly chosen at the beginning of the school
year. This essay must include: a topic, a stance, opinions on the topic/stance, facts about the
topic/stance, record any change of opinion, and give their final stance.
Students will be required to have a minimum of six (6) references. They must include:
2 references from text book
1 reference from an interview
1 reference from the Primary Source CD
1 reference from a First Reader (Historical Fiction or Non-Fiction)
Students may include up to 2 internet sources.1

Wikipedia will count for an immediate drop of fifty (50) points for each reference.
