Wu Chien Chuan

Wu Chien Chuan (18701942) learned Tai Chi Chuan from his father Wu Chuan
Yu (18341902), who was a student of Yang family. At the time that Wu Chuan
Yu was teaching, the art was yet known by the family names that distinguished
the different styles of Tai Chi Chuan. Wu Chien Chuan became known as the
founder of the Wu Family style of Tai Chi Chuan.
Wu Chien Chuan started teaching publicly in 1914 at the Beijing Physical Culture
Research Institute, and later at the famous Ching Wu Martial Arts School. He
eventually settled in Shanghai and set up the Chien Chuan Tai Chi Chuan
Association where there is still an established branch of the school.
The legacy of Wu Chen Chuan has been carried on by his descendants such as
Wu Kung Yi, Wu Kung Cho, Wu Ying Hua and her husband Ma Yueh Liang.
Today, thousands of students have learned the Wu Family style of Tai Chi Chuan
throughout the world.
