REFLECTION:

How does my persons profile look?
I chose to do a Facebook page for Julia Child. I believe the look of the page captures some of things that
endeared her to us for so many years her exuberant personality, remarkable accomplishments, and witty
sense of humor.
Would I friend her if I came across her profile on Facebook? Why or why not?
Yes, I would friend her! Although I do not enjoy cooking (in fact, I loathe it!), I have always enjoyed watching
cooking programs. My husband, a classically trained pastry chef, and I spent many hours watching Julias
ground-breaking show, The French Chef, back in the 1970s and 1980s. She is a pioneer and quite a
character!
How do I think life would have been different if Facebook had really been available to her?
My hunch is that Julia Child would have embraced FB in the same manner she embraced other ways of
reaching out to her audience wholeheartedly! What she did (professionally) and who she was (personally)
would have transcended social media very well, particularly since it would have afforded her the opportunity to
have two-way interaction.
Would the results have been positive, negative, or a little of both?
I believe her FB experience would have been resoundingly positive. Her bigger-than-life personality, apparent
ability to engage others, and her way with words would have resulted in a very successful social media
presence.
What type of work do I think would be involved if I were to make a posthumous Facebook page for Julia Child?
There are currently a few pages dedicated to her and to specific aspects of her life. They appear to be
maintained by people/organizations with vested interests in her physical and/or intellectual property. My initial
thought is that doing a memorial FB page for someone of celebrity status may have some sticky legal concerns
. I think Ill just stick to getting my own FB page up and running for now.
