Health Education Theory

Health belief model- we increased
the
awareness of the adolescent
populations risk for
periodontal disease, dental caries,
malnutrition,
and susceptibility to tobacco and
other drugs.
Once the risk was identified, we
presented
information and demonstrations to
persuade
them to make decisions to improve

Community Organization TheoryPrior to the presentation Afton met

with members of the LDS church to
determine what group had the
greatest need and it was determined
that the hispanic congregation had the
greatest need.
At the introduction of our group, youth
leaders discussed the need for oral
health in relation to overall health. By
organizing this presentation with
church leader we are establishing a
community organization. .

Evaluation of Outcomes
The methods of evaluation that we used to
evaluate the learning include:
-Multiple choice pre-test.
- At the end of the presentation,
participants demonstrated correct methods
of flossing and brushing.
- Open discussion regarding oral health,
nutrition, and
tobacco education.
