Googleuw ‘CONVERSION oF TIME.
‘We have then
965.2422 solar days = 366.24222 sid. days,
or 1 aolar day = 1.027379 sid. day @
and 1 sid. day = 0.9972696 solar day @
which may be put in the form
4 sid, day +3" 561.555 aid time;
1 solar day ~ 3” 55.909 solar me.
The exooss of a mean solar above a sidereal day is there-
fore 3" 561.555 of sidereal time, or 3" 59.909 mean solar
timo.
Sinco a sidereal day, hour, oto, is shorter than a solar
day, hour, etc, a given interval will contain more sidereal
than solar days oF hours, eto. Hence it follows from (1)
that any intervat expressed in mean solar time may be
changed into its sidereal equivalent by multiplying by
410027879; and from (2) that any sidereal interval may
be changed into its mean solar equivalent by multiplying
by 0.9972606.
If then wo put
‘M=any mean solar interval,
‘S mequivalent sidereal interval ;
then ‘8 = 1.0027379 I= (1 + 0.0027379) Mf,
Mz 0.972696 = (1 —0.0027304) 5.
0.027379, «' =0.0027304,
Put
and wo have
S=M+cM; M=S—cS. ®
‘The values of eBf and e!$ may be taken from the annexed
tables, which are reduoed from a larger table in the American
Ephemeris,
