Genre
Indie - folk

What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

The sort of indie look, with no lip-syncing and it being story based. Also the location
of forest is quite indie. With all the costumes and with the overall look and felling this
has a indie feel to it.

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative;
impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)

The style is narrative. I have story we follow thought-out the video. The it is the main
focus. There are also some surrealist elements involved to create a strange
atmosphere and make the narrative different.

Costume
I have individually designed costumes for each character. Using charity shops along with the
internet I have been able to gather all the elements to create there individual looks. I wanted
each character to represent there character from the wizard of Oz whilst looking indie and
untie and having a rather strange look and feel with the costumes.

Lighting
I will use fairly natural lighting to for a sense or realism and to add a rough look to the whole
thing. Also due to the amount of location moving and the remoteness of the locations large
lighting would be impractical. Although reflectors might be used of enhance the look of shots
and build atmosphere in certain shots.

Locations

I am using several forest based locations to gain a multiple looks for locations. We
will be car hoping going one place to the next and getting certain shots (mainly for
the walking scene).
I have rented a house with land for half a day to do our set up shots in the woods so
there is not risk of being kicked of site and giving us the optunity to set up more
complicated sets and do all our set up scenes there.
we are also going to a river for the boat scene where we are rowing a boat up a river.

Shot types

I will be using many different shot types. But close-ups and wides will be the main go
to shots as they give the most emotion and understanding to the scene. Due to the
amount of walking scenes wides will be useful to show landscape with actors. But
putting some close ups in as well brings life and emotion along with detail to the
shots.

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences

My whole look and feel to the video that ill be after, is heavily influenced by these
videos. Many of which focus on story and have interesting characters and land
scape. Which I hope to bring to my video. Helping me find the look and style of my
video. I have used this to influence my costumes, choice of actors, look, location
and edit style I will go for.

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?

The core meaning is happiness and living life. They talk about being happy and
having fun as a lose basis throughout the lyrics. But the lyrics are a bit scattered and
weird for effect.

How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)
We take a story about a group of people looking for happiness and follow there journey as
they do.
The song is manly about happiness and my video shows a group of four people going to find
someone they believe can bring them this.
The scenes should fit nicely with the song and give a certain felling.

Brief:

Its a fantasy narrative: A lose wizard of oz spin of, mainly
using similar characters with hints to the original but
own unique twist, with a girl (main character) who wakes up
in the middle of a field finds a peace of yellow string. She
follows it long dramatic shots of her journey following the
string. during the video three more characters join her, the
scarecrow, tin man and lion. they join her on her journey.
everything is unrealistic, and surreal. then at the end of the
video they end up in a dark part of the forest with "the
wizard" who is in a old wooden chair with candles around
him. the main characters kneel at his feet and the video
ends. The video is about the journey and hardship.
