Impact: My experiences, particularly my positions at MSU and CSU, have
helped to better understand important scientific data in entomology and
make it applicable to much of the general public. Work in Enviroweather
directly impacts the public and their ability to access weather and pest data
pertinent to maximizing their crop production. Working on biological control
has contributed to a greater understanding of host specificity and risk
analysis in selecting a classical biological control agent as well as the overall
importance of laboratory and field work in analyzing the risk of introduction
and predicting ecological outcomes.

Examining competition between two Cotesia parasitoids of the
imported cabbageworm, Pieris rapae. Maintenance and rearing
of many insect colonies both in lab and greenhouse. Field work
involving cooperation with local farmers to assess field pest
populations and parasitism. Supervision of undergraduate
employees and volunteers. Helped design and execute an
experiment working with USDA greenhouses to examine CO2
effects on a multi-trophic system.

Teaching of two 3-hour laboratory sections per week.
Preparation for teaching, student supervision, lab set-up, exam
proctoring. Responsibilities include weekly lab lectures, writing
and administering lab practicals, preparation of lecture exam
questions, and grading. Course involves an intensive overview of
invertebrate classification, anatomy, ecology, and identification.
