Is Easter Sunday 2016 to now be shelved away as

a nice memory testified to by photos posted on
Facebook? An opportunity for people to dress up and
have good family time? Does the message of Easter
end with the last Easter Sunday Mass? Liturgically,
the Church says, No. We have the Easter Season
a needed time to reflect on the truth of the resurrection
and to look to the coming of the Holy Spirit at
Pentecost.
Easter cannot stay hidden away. Easter demands
that we go into the streetsno matter how
uncomfortable it makes us or others.
In Matthews account of the resurrection, there is
an interesting instruction that is given to the women
who came to the tomb early that morning by the angel
sitting on top of the rolled-away, heavy stone that had
been used to seal the tomb. ...go quickly and tell his
disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold,
he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see
him. (Mt. 28:7)
There is a culture of fear that continually whispers
to us that nothing can change, that we cannot really do
anything in the face of the injustice of our world, that
we should look upon ourselves and our world with
hopeless eyes. The culture of fear is arrogant in its
pride and thinks that it alone has words to speak. The
culture of fear lies. The culture of fear would convince
us that we are its children.
We are not children of the culture of fear. We are
children of the resurrection! We are sons and
daughters of God! We have nothing to fear and we
have words, new words to speak to our world and to
one another! The angel announces that the risen Lord
is going to Galilee and that there the disciples will see
him. The implication is more than apparent, the
disciples are meant to go and meet the Lord who goes
ahead of them. (The Lord always goes ahead of us.)
They are meant to go out into the street and carry the
truth of the resurrection into the world!
By Fr. Michael Cummins

Galilea; all lo vern ustedes. (Mt. 28:7)

Parishioner Survey

Encuesta para Feligreses

Archbishop Cupich wants your input!

When Archbishop Cupich announced the Renew My
Church initiative in January, he invited everyone in the
Archdiocese of Chicago to participate in the process of
revitalizing our parish communities. Just as Pope Francis
asked Catholics across the globe for their input prior to the
Synod of Bishops meetings in 2014 and 2015, Archbishop
Cupich is asking for your help as the Archdiocese begins a
new listening phase of this important effort.
Please take time to respond to a survey designed to
help Archbishop Cupich and the Archdiocese of Chicago
better understand the perspectives of Catholics across
Cook and Lake Counties. The survey is available at:
www.archchicago.org/renew
We encourage you to complete the survey online.
Paper copies will be made available in parishes the
weekends following Easter Sunday.
Please note all responses will be anonymous.

Tambin habr copias impresas.

Buen Camino!

Buen Camino!

I catch myself reflecting on my walk through Spain

frequently. My husband, Todd, and I walked together
sharing an experience of a lifetime. We prayed for the
intentions of family and friends. Our prayers also went out
for all the people we met from all over the world. Many of
them made a lasting impression and filled our hearts with
compassion.
Each day was filled with new experiences. We heard
the phrase Buen Camino! from people passing by us as we
walked along the trail. It gave us encouragement in times
of need and was also a friendly greeting that bridged all
language barriers. Since Todd and I seemed to walk slower
than everyone else, we started our days
hitting the trails by 7 a.m. The early
mornings were chilly and damp, but we
were able to enjoy the peacefulness of less
pilgrims on the path. As the day
continued, we would talk about the
challenges we were having. After the first
day of walking, I was not sure that I
would be able to walk all the miles ahead
of us. Support braces were now on both
of my knees, but we just laughed about
how slow we walked. We enjoyed looking
for each group that passed us.
We arrived in Santiago on Good
Friday. The rain began only an hour into
the walk. Many miles through the forest
protected us from much of the rain. As
we headed to the Office of Pilgrims for
our certificate of completion, we got lost.
Fortunately, a few miles later we waited our turn in line.
On Holy Saturday, we took a walk for fun. After a stop for
poison ivy cream, we stopped by a little church. Two
people approached us with a plate with special bread. They
wanted to make sure we were Pilgrims. Later that evening,
we went back for Mass. We celebrated Easter in the
Cathedral of St. James with the Bishop.
I will be asked about my walk and how it changed my
life for many weeks to come. God showed me that I need
to take better care of my body that I turn to prayer often,
and that I am able to recognize blessings He sends along
lifes journey. I have so many stories to share. God
brought people and challenges into my life so I can draw
closer to Christ. It truly was a Buen Camino!

medida que continuaba el da, platicbamos
de los retos que estamos teniendo. Despus
Camino!
