3 Sentenced in Arson Attack Against Refugees
Section 1
Two men and women drove to a place with a gasoline bomb and hurled it into a building
built for refugees last year. They are just now receiving prison sentences. The judge said that the
arsonist crime was motivated by neo Nazis beliefs. The defense argued that the two men were
drunk and that woman was politically nave. Judge Wolfgang Rosenbusch said, The
underpinning for their action was racial hatred informed by National Socialism (Smale, n.p.).
The court sentenced the leader of the group to eight years, while his accomplice received
seven. The woman will serve four years behind bars. The reasoning was that all three people
were aware of their deadly actions and continued to do them anyways. All three involved in the
bombing were between the ages of 20-32. They all expressed regret for their actions. Thankfully,
no one was hurt. The bomb only affected a certain part of the building. An 11 year old boy from
Zimbabwe usually slept in the part of the building damaged. That night, he took his mattress to
sleep with his mother and siblings.

My article relates to class in many ways. It takes place in Germany, which was a big part
of our unit. The main idea of my article is a crime motivated by neo Nazis beliefs. Neo-Nazis are

people that still today believe in Hitlers ideologies. Neo-Nazism began showing its existence
after World War II by those who wanted revive the Nazis ideas and principles. In class we
discussed the Nazis and their belief systems. We watched a video that explained Hitlers dream
of creating a master race. This master race consisted of only Aryans which is pure German blood.
The main reason Hitler fought for the Sudentland in before WWII is because he wanted to create
Lebensraum for his master race. Lebensraum is German living space. The arsonists wanted to
kill the refugees because they went against Hitlers ideologies. This is the same reason the Nazis
wanted to kill the Jews in the Holocaust. Its the same sick mindset revealing its nature more than
60 years later.
Section 3
This article was very interesting to me because Neo-Nazism is an interesting belief
system. I disagree with everything about Neo-Nazism, but its fascinating that even today people
could be so cruel. These arsonist in my article were between the ages of 20-32. They were not
born when Hitler was in reign, yet they feel so passionate as to take innocent lives. They were
taught about Hitler and Neo-Nazism, but they never fully experienced it.
It surprises me that this kind of topic is still relevant today. What kind of person supports
the Nazis? These Neo-Nazis support the same people who killed 11 million in cold blood. The
only question I can formulate is Why?. I will never understand the common sense behind this
belief system or how it has traveled so far through generations. I do not think these people
understand the reality behind true equality and true cruelty. It is cruel to take someones life
behind something they cannot control. It is cruel to look down on someone and treat them
differently because of something they cannot control. We were all born into this world with
nothing and nobody. We are all going to die the same way.
