Iran
Addressing the Legalization of Cloning Human Beings Internationally

The problem with legalizing cloning human beings internationally is that a lot of the countries have
different problems with cloning, some believe it should be banned altogether while others still believe there
is no problem with any aspect of cloning. alot of these countries opinions are derived from their religious
beliefs. Iran is greatly influenced by their religion. Being a theological government the values of the church,
are the values of the government. and cloning is a really big overlap because it is a big political issue, but
how the government handles it is based on their religion. Irans current leader, Ali Khamenei was among
the first clerics to allow stem cell research, and therapeutic cloning, so they will support advances made in
this field. but will proceed with a prohibitive attitude toward a lot of the other branches of cloning. they
based this on their interpretation of the Quran saying that interpersonal relationships are sacred, which
rules out the artificial creation of life.

Iran has a lot of problems with cloning because their religion interferes and overlaps so much with
the boundaries of cloning. Iran has a few goals saying that they want to be a developed country and have a
developed medical and science field by 2025, and one of the ways that they can start advancing towards
these goals is by participating in the medical research that is going on today, one of the most prominent
being cloning. This problem relates to the international community because Iran is making a concerted
effort to contribute to advances in this field. It is of international concern because there is a lot of potential
in cloning for medical purposes. The main problem associated with cloning in Iran is that they support
therapeutic cloning and stem cell research, but the question is how far is Iran and their islamic religion
willing to go in regards to cloning? The answer is that Iran believes very strongly in preserving interpersonal
relationships, but also believes that anything they can do to preserve and prolong human life is both
permitted and rewarded by Allah. This means that they are more than willing to advance the medical
purposes of cloning, but making a new life, and adding a third person to a marital relationship, and some of
the other results or necessities of the processes of cloning are strictly prohibited. Iran has such a religious
government that all their laws are based on the Quran. Ali Khamenei, the current leader, wants to take Iran
to a modern and developed nation by 2025 he has said that attaching a high status to scholars and
scientists in society would help talents to flourish. his visions for the future combined with his stance on
stem cell research and therapeutic cloning show that he wants to advance this science. However if he
follows his religion, he will only go so far. he will not be willing to endanger interpersonal relationships
because of this science. family structure and lineage is one thing that all muslims hold very dear, so Iran
will not allow a third party to come into any marital relationship for fertility purposes, Or allow any cloning
that results in another human life. There were a lot of resolutions made by the UN in the mid 2000s that
Iran abstained from voting on so there is not a lot to go on there. But currently there has been a lot of
sanctions pressed against them in regards to their want for a nuclear program so they will not be happy to
contribute financially to the UN or participate with them.

Iran would like to see strict regulations on the extent that cloning would go, they think it should be illegal to
create human life, and to interfere with human beings interpersonal relationships. However they are in
support of therapeutic cloning, and stem cell research with the belief that allah rewards those who
manipulate nature to extend human life. Iran is affected by other countries, because other countries have
different religions and are already very scientifically active. Japan for example is a primarily buddhist
country, buddhism has no problems with any form of cloning, and Japan is already a very technologically
and medically active country. this will affect Iran because Iran is going to completely oppose a lot of the
unrestricted things in japan that have to do with cloning.
