Mentorship Program Guidelines

It was decided by the District Mentorship Committee the site mentor representative
would made a concerted effort to explain the expectations of the mentoring
program to the mentor teacher and the new teacher when they are together in an
effort to avoid any confusion. Below are some talking points which should be
covered after introducing new teachers to their mentor teacher.

1. Our mission is to improve the quality of instruction

and student learning through mentoring relationships
by providing experiences that foster professional and
personal growth of teachers.
2. Our goals are to
Address needs and concerns of teachers new to the
district.
Improve classroom teaching skills, teacher performance
and student achievement.
Familiarize new teachers with the norms and expectations
of the school, district and their profession.
Promote and support professional well-being and career
development.
Increase the retention of all teachers within the district.
Expose teachers to best practice strategies for
improvement of
student achievement.
3. Requirements
Schedule at least one official meeting per month.
Mentorship Log contains topics of discussion related to
mentorship and upcoming events in your building for
each month of the year. Maintain on-going discussions
regarding upcoming events/expectations.
After each monthly meeting, one person should e-mail
Teri letting her know you met.
The new teacher is required to fill out a goal sheet. One
copy should be sent to Teri, one copy should be given to
the mentor teacher, and the new teacher should keep a
copy.

Periodically discuss the progress toward their goal

during the year.
Bring any concerns to the Building Mentorship Rep or
Teri.
