EVENTS
Depart from Turner Ashby High School.
Arrive at the Moton Museum, 900 Griffin Boulevard,
Farmville, Virginia 23901
Welcome by Justin Reid and introduction of guests and former
Moton students
Group #2 (Barbara Johns) will present from the Moton
auditorium stage, and Group #3 (John Stokes) will present
from the site of the former football bleachers. We will return
to Moton auditorium in order to view the opening film.
Drive from the Moton Museum to Darlington Heights.
Group #1 (Vernon Johns) will present at the Vernon Johns
gravesite.
Drive from Darlington Heights to Fuqua School
Welcome by Mr. John Melton, Fuquas Head of School
Group #4 (Prince Edward Academy) will present at the Fuqua
School Bell Tower.
Lunch at Fuqua School in the Gee Price Cafeteria
Drive from Fuqua School to Farmvilles First Baptist Church

(leave Fuqua and take a left on Longwood Ave. / 4 street)

Group #5 (Rev. L. Francis Griffin) will present in the sanctuary

of First Baptist Church, Group #6 (NAACP Attorneys) will
present in the church basement where strategic meetings
occurred between NAACP attorneys, Rev. Griffin, and the
leaders of the student strike.
Walk to the Confederate War Memorial on High Street.
Group #5 will speak briefly at the Memorial, but will give the
bulk of their presentation inside of Ruffner Hall.

Group #7 (Massive Resistance and the Defenders of State

Sovereignty) and Group #8 (Dr. C.G. Gordon Moss) will
present inside of Ruffner Hall at Longwood University.
Walk from Ruffner Hall to Prince Edward County Court House
Group #9 (Light of Reconciliation) will present on the grounds
of the Prince Edward County Court House.

3:20-3:30

Board bus and return to the Moton Museum.

3:30-4:30

Panel discussion / Q&A with former Moton students and

other guests.
Individual time to explore the museum and visit the gift shop.
Depart Moton Museum.
Arrive at Turner Ashby High School

NOTES

*Rain location for the John Stokes group will

be the Moton auditorium.

*Rain location for Vernon Johns group will be

the Moton Museum

*Rain location for the PEA/Fuqua School

group will be the Gee Price Cafeteria
*Bus will drop us off at First Baptist and then
park behind the Prince Edward County Court
House in one of the parking lots along South
Street (between South Streets intersection

with 4 street and East 3 Street)

*The Massive Resistance group will be able to

make brief references to the Confederate War
Memorial, but the presentation will be given
inside of Ruffner Hall in order to avoid traffic
noise.

*In order to dampen the traffic noise, we will

move this presentation to the lower landing
between the north side of the court house and
Farmville Baptist Church after viewing the
Light of Reconciliation sign.
