Dear Prairie Point Community
‘The purpose of this letter is to provide you with somé general information regarding a situation between two
students that occurred on Wednesday at Prairie Point Middle School and 9" Grade Academy. This incident was
widely covered in the media on Thursday.
Although there are many rumors in the community, the school is not at liberty to discuss the details due to student
privacy laws. Student discipline issues are not public information and schools are required to protect the rights of
all children.
Although we are not able to discuss this publicly, please know the school administration is stil investigating and
has taken appropriate actions to this point. When working with young people, the truth does not always come out
at once or in any consistent, linear manner. Once all the facts are collected the school will take the necessary
measures. Be assured that we do not tolerate bullying, fighting or threats of any nature. The school has and will
continue to take many preventative steps to ensure the safety of all students.
Regarding medical issues, decisions about when to call an ambulance are made by our nursing staff after they
have assessed the injury. If the injury is life threatening emergency personnel would be notified immediately.
More often, parents are advised to seek medical evaluation and or treatment.
‘Sometimes events, no matter how unpleasant, provide an opportunity to have serious conversations about the
role we all play in providing a safe learning environment. We will use this as an opportunity within the building.
I would ask you to take advantage of this learning opportunity to visit with your son or daughter. We are all
obligated to report incidents or potential danger to school personnel to help assure the safety of all kids. We need
to come together as a community of students, parents and schoo! personnel to help assure a safe school.

Sincerely,
Greg éyter
