CHRISTIANITY AND THE

THREAT OF INTIMACY
It seems to me that what makes Christianity so
threatening to so many people is that its so very
intimate and personal. What do I mean? I mean that in
meditation or yoga, you may focus on your breath, or
be aware of your body, or clear your mind, or
intentionally enter into the present, but you are never
called to enter into a relationship with another person.
The only person that you are really concerned with is
yourself. Christianity, on the other hand, is essentially
personal, professing that we believe in One God,
Three Persons. And, it is with those persons that we
have a relationship. We are created in Gods image
and likeness, male and female he created us. We are
made for relationships, both with God and each other.
But relationships can be scary. If you are old
enough to be reading this, chances are that youve
been hurt in a relationship before. Some of us have
been hurt by the people we love most, sometimes our
friends, spouses, or even our own parents. Maybe the
hurt came from things that loved ones did to us, but
much of the time we hurt because of the things they
didnt do for us, like show affection, be present,
provide for our needs, tell the truth, or just simply
love us.
For many people, a relationship is a threat because
a relationship calls us to give and receive, to share our
life with another, but if weve been hurt by others in
the past, its reasonable that we would want to avoid
being hurt again. So an impersonal practice like
meditation or yoga sounds like a nice alternative.
Christian prayer is essentially relational, and since
relationships are threatening, they are best to be
avoided, according to the wisdom of the day.
Think for a moment of how very relational
Christianity is. Think of how personal it is. Not only
do we believe in God, we believe that God has a
name, and that he wants to enter into relationship with
us. We believe that on account of the sin of our first
parents, we have been separated from God, but that
God wants to enter into relationship with us, and that
that reconciliation comes through his son Jesus by the
power of the Holy Spirit, who proceeds from the
Father and the Son.

CRISTIANISMO Y LA AMENAZA
DE INTIMIDAD
Lo que hace al cristianismo tan amenazante para
mucha gente es el hecho de que es muy ntimo y
personal. A que me refiero? Me refiero a que,
meditando yoga, t te puedes concentrar en tu
respiracin o incluso estar consiente de tu cuerpo, o
clarificar tu mente, o intencionalmente entrar en el
presente, pero nunca se te invita a entrar en una
relacin con otra persona. La nica persona de la que te
preocupas es tu mismo. El cristianismo, por el
contrario, es esencialmente personal, profesando que
creemos en Dios, tres Personas. Y tenemos una
relacin con estas tres personas. Somos creados a
imagen y semejanza de Dios, hombre y mujer l nos
cre. Estamos hechos para relaciones, con ambos, Dios
y los dems.
Pero las relaciones pueden causar miedo. Si t eres
adulto y ests leyendo esto, hay una gran posibilidad de
que te han lastimado en una relacin en el pasado.
Algunos hemos sido lastimados por las personas que
ms amamos, algunas veces nuestros amigos, esposos,
o incluso nuestros padres. Quiz el dolor viene de las
cosas que nuestros seres queridos nos hicieron, pero la
mayora de las veces viene de las cosas que no hicieron
por nosotros, como mostrar afecto, estar presente,
proveer para nuestras necesidades, decirnos la verdad,
o simplemente amarnos.
Para mucha gente, una relacin es una amenaza por
nos llama a dar y recibir, a compartir nuestra vida con
alguien ms. Pero si nos han lastimado antes, es
razonable que queramos evitar ser lastimados otra vez.
As que una prctica impersonal como meditacin o
yoga nos parece una buena alternativa. La oracin
cristiana es esencialmente relacional, y dado que las
relaciones son amenazantes, es mejor evitarlas, de
acuerdo a la sabidura de nuestro tiempo.
Piensa por un momento que tan relacional es el
cristianismo. Piensa que tan personal es. No solo
creemos en Dios, creemos que Dios tiene nombre, ay
que quiere entrar en relacin con nosotros. Creemos
que, por el pecado de nuestros primeros padres, hemos
sido separados de Dios, pero que Dios quiere
relacionarse con nosotros, y que esa

The KCs will be sponsoring a blood
drive on Sunday, April 17, from 9
a.m. until 3 p.m. in the community
room. Please bring ID such as drivers
license, passport, state ID, etc.

The St. Joseph Assistance Committee would like to

thank the PRAISE students and parents for providing
the food for the Easter baskets and the Knights of

Internet Safety

La Seguridad en el Internet

The internet has changed our lives. We rely on it

to communicate, gather information, and to keep our
busy lives organized. Most families have some type
of computer at home that is used for personal and
educational matters. Technology continues to change
and now many students carry personal portable
devices in the form of a laptop, tablet, or cell phone.
My generation thinks cell phones are used for calling
people, while this generation finds answers to their
questions using Google on their phone.
Schools are mandated by law to teach students
internet safety and various programs are used to share
information that is age appropriate.
Have you taken steps to cover internet safety at
home? If you have children accessing the internet
while under your supervision, you should become
internet savvy. Make sure you are informed about the
dangers, but you dont have to become an expert
before you let a child connect to the internet.
It is important to have open conversations about
the benefits of the internet. Children need to know
that they should come to you if a situation arises. You
should also discuss what sites they like to visit and
then go to them together. If a child does not want you
to visit a site, that should raise a concern. Create a
game plan for internet use agreeing on where and
when a child can access the internet.
It is important to protect your computer if you
have children and there are many different programs
available like Safe Eyes. Some of the programs not
only track the history but can block inappropriate
sights, chat options, or limit access hours.
The internet has brought a world of knowledge to
our fingertips and the ability to have constant access.
Take the time to make your computers a safe
experience. Visit sites like: LearnTheNet.com,
Mashable.com, InternetSafety.com, or run a Google
Search to gather more knowledge on this important
topic.

El internet ha cambiado nuestras vidas. Confiamos en
