TUTORIAL: SEWING AN INVISIBLE ZIPPER - COSER UNA

CREMALLERA INVISIBLE

Hoy voy a ensearos cmo coser una cremallera invisible.

En mucho ms sencillo de lo que creers, si nunca lo has
hecho antes. De hecho, sta es mi primera cremallera
invisible!. La cos para el Vestido Retro de la Maratn
Telaria y me encant. As es que aqu va para todos
vosotros.
This is the first invisible zipper Ive ever sewn. I did it
for the Retro Dress and it turned out so well that I
decided to show you how to do it. Its really simple.
En este caso, vamos a coser las dos piezas de la espalda
del vestido, que lleva la cremallera en medio.
In this case, Ill sew the 2 pieces of the back of the
dress.

Primero doblamos y planchamos 2cm de la tela hacia la

cara interior. La marca creada al planchar, nos servir de
gua.
First, fold and iron 2cm of fabric to wrong side. Well use
the crease as a guide.

Los extremos de las cremalleras invisibles tienen la

peculiaridad de enrollarse sobre s mismos. Por eso, vamos
a desenrollarlos con la plancha, para poder coser mejor.
The coils of the zipper tend to curl toward the back. Its
advisable to press the zipper flap before you start.

Utilizando la lnea del pliegue como gua, fijamos con

alfileres la cremallera, tal y como veis en la imagen. La
cremallera y la tela estn con las caras buenas tocndose.

Using the fold line as a guide, pin the zipper on the fabric,
right sides facing, as you see in the image.

Para coser, yo prefiero usar un prensatelas especfico para

cremalleras invisibles pero se puede hacer con uno de
cremallera normal.
I use an invisible zipper foot but you can also do it with a
normal zipper foot.

Bajamos el pie hasta encajar la cremallera en la ranura

izquierda del prnsatelas. Cosemos lentamente para que la
tela no haga gestos raros.
Lower the foot down onto the zipper. Make sure that the
zipper coil is in the left groove of the foot and sew slowly
to avoid fabric puckering.

Hacemos una marca en las dos piezas de tela, exactamente

a la misma altura. Esto nos sirva para alinear bien la
cremallera al cose la segunda pieza.
Draw 2 marks exactly at the same place of both pieces to
help you align them correctly.

Para el lado contrario, fijamos la cremallera a la tela, de

nuevo las caras buenas tocndose, tal y como veis en la
siguiente imagen.
For the opposite side, pin the zipper to the garment, again
making sure that the right sides are facing, so that it
resembles the photo.

Antes coser, conviene cerrar y abrir la cremallera para

comprobar que todo va bien.
Check your zipper before you stitch.
Cosemos la cremallera como la otra vez con la diferencia
de que, ahora, usaremos la ranura de la derecha del
prnsatelas.

Sew the zipper as you did the other side. However, this
time make sure that the zipper coil is in the right side
groove of the foot.

Cerramos la cremallera y planchamos suavemente.

Pull the zipper closed and iron gently.

Cerramos el resto de la espalda con una costura: con

cuidado hacemos un snwich con las dos telas dejando la
cremallera en medio y unimos con alfileres. La cola de la
cremallera tiene que quedar fuera, como en la foto.
Sandwich the zipper in the seam allowance and pin the
rest of the seam. The zipper tail should be out of the way,
as in the photo.

Cosemos con el prensaletas universal.

Stitch with universal foot.

La unin de ambas costuras queda as. No hace falta que se

toquen.
The stitching lines have a little space between them. Its
OK.

Planchamos de nuevo.
Iron again.

LO QUE NECESITAS:
- 1,40 m de tela (110 cm de ancho) un poco
ms gruesa de lo habitual (pana fina, lana
fina, lino grueso...)
- Un poco de entretela para el cinturn
- 2 botones grandes decorativos.
- 50 cm de bies
- Cremallera invisible de 30 cm
- Hilo a juego.
- OPCIONAL: 1,5 m de cordn decorativo para
el cinturn
WHAT YOU NEED:
- 1.40 m of rather stiff fabric (width: 110 cm)
(baby corduroy, thin wool, thick linen...)
- Some lining for the belt
- 2 big buttons
- 50 cm bias tape
- Invisible zipper, 30 cm long
- Assorted thread

- OPTIONAL: 1.5 m cord for the belt

El patrn est hecho a medida para mi hija.

Sus medidas son las siguientes:
- Altura: 112 cm
- Cintura: 55 cm
- Hombro (del cuello al extremo exterior del
hombro): 9cm
I made this pattern for my daughter. And her
measures were:
- Height: 112 cm
- Waist: 55 cm
- Shoulder (from neck to outer end of
shoulder): 9cm

Como veris, las lneas son muy sencillas por
lo que creo que, si tenis un poco de prctica,
podris ampliarlo o reducirlo de talla con
bastante facilidad.
As you'll see, the lines are very simple, so I
believe that with a little practice you can
enlarge
or
shorten
it
pretty
easily.
Imprimirlo a tamao real, sin ajustar.
Print it in real size. Do not adjust.
Tenis que imprimir las hojas del PDF y unirlas
haciendo coincidir los nmeros iguales. Es

decir, pegamos el n 1 de una hoja con el n1

de otra hoja y as sucesivamente. Es como
hacer un puzzle. En la imagen podis ver el
resultado.
You must print the PDF and join the pages
where sides have the same number. It's like a
puzze. The image shows more or less what it
will look like.

Veis que todas las lneas son negras y lisas

salvo las del cuello y las 2 lneas centrales del
vestido que son intermitentes y de colores
diferentes. El color azul es la lnea del
delantero y el color rojo corresponde al
trasero.

All lines arte black except the ones of the neck

and the 2 central lines of the dress which are
coloured. Color blue is for the front and color
red is for the back.
Para separar el delantero y el trasero en 2
piezas del patrn, tenis 2 opciones:
a) podis imprimir esas hojas 2 veces,
volverlas a pegar y cortar una vez por la lnea
del delantero y otra por la del trasero.
b) podis imprimirlo una sola vez y calcar las
piezas en papel de seda (el que se usa para
calcar patrones) y recortar el papel de seda.
To separate front and back pattern into 2
different pieces, you have 2 options:
a) you can either print the papers twice, stick
them together again and cut one on the front
line and the other on the back line.
b) or you can print it just once and hand copy
the shape on tissue paper (the one you use for
copying patterns) and then cut it.
Una vez que tenemos todas las piezas de
papel cortadas, las colocamos sobre la tela,
dibujamos las formas y cortamos la tela.
Once you've cut all the paper pieces, place
them on the fabric, trace the shapes and cut
the fabric.
IMPORTANTE: El trasero (la espalda) se corta
en DOS PIEZAS que irn unidas en medio por

una cremallera. Al cortar, NO hay que colocar

la tela doblada por la mitad. Se corta una
mitad, se da la vuelta al patrn para colocarlo
en sentido opuesto (como un espejo) y se
corta la otra mitad de la espalda. Como veis
en la siguiente imagen.
IMPORTANT NOTE: You'll cut 2 PIECES of the
back in order to sew an invisible zipper
between them.

Para la parte delantera, sin embargo, s que

colocaremos la tela doblada por la mitad y
cortaremos una sola pieza.
However, for the front, you will cut just one
piece by folding the fabric.

Para el cinturn, cortamos 2 piezas de tela y 1

de entretela, que ir en medio para darle ms
cuerpo.
For the belt, cut 2 pieces of fabric and 1 of
lining, which you'll place in the middle.
Una vez cortadas todas las piezas de tela, lo
primero que haremos es coser la cremallera
invisible. Para ello, os he hecho ESTE
TUTOTIAL aparte.
When you've cut all the fabric pieces, the first
thing you do is sew the invisible zipper.
Instructions are given inTHIS TUTORIAL.
Una vez cosida la cremallera, el trasero se
ver de una sola pieza, como en la imagen.
After sewing the zipper, the back will look as
like one piece, as you see on the image.

Cosemos los hombros: colocamos el delantero

y el trasero uno sobre otro, con los lados
buenos tocndose. Sujetamos los hombros con
alfileres y los cosemos. Sobrehilamos la
costura para que no se deshilache con el uso y
haremos esto con todas las costuras.
Sew the shoulders together; place the back on
top of the front, right sides facing. Remember
to overcast the joints.

Cosemos el bies del cuello: se cose como

cualquier bies visto. Cuando cosemos el
primer lado del bies, es importante hacer un
dobladillo al principio y otro al final, como veis
en esta imagen.
Apply the bias tape to the neck; when you
stitch the first side of the bias tape, it's
important to fold the fabric at both ends to

create a little hem, as you see in the photo. Be

careful not to stitch it on the zipper.

Si queris saber cmo coser un bies de este

tipo, AQU os dejo un tutorial con todo tipo de
detalles. La nica diferencia sera que el de
este vestido no es en redondo y, por eso, os
digo que hagis un pequeo dobladillo al
principio y al final. Junto a la cremallera pero
sin llegar a taparla.
Cosemos el bies por la cara interna del
vestido.
Stitch the bias tape on the inner side of the
dress first.

Le damos la vuelta y lo cosemos por la cara

externa.
Fold to front and stitch.

Comprobamos que la cremallera se puede

cerrar bien.
Make sure you can close the zipper correctly.

Queda as:
That's what it looks like:

Cosemos las mangas: fijamos la manga con

alfileres tal y como veis en la imagen. Los
lados buenos de la tela se tocan. Cosemos.
Repetimos con la otra manga.
Sew the sleeves: attach the sleeve with pins
as you see in the image. Right sides facing.
Stitch. Repeat with the other sleeve.

Nos queda as:

This is how it will look like:

Dobladillo de las mangas: Sobrehilamos el

borde de la manga. La doblamos hacia dentro
4 cm. Sujetamos con alfileres y cosemos.
Sleeve's hem; Overcast the sleeve edge. Fold
4 cm to wrong side. Pin and stitch.

Damos la vuelta a la prenda y doblamos el

dobladillo de la manga hacia fuera 2 cm.
Sujetamos con alfileres y cosemos.
Turn the dress inside out. Fold the sleeve's
hem 2cm to right side. Pin and stitch.

Queda as:
This is how it will look like:

Cosemos los laterales: Sujetar con alfileres y

coser por donde indica la lnea de la imagen,
con los lados buenos tocndose.
Pin front to back, right sides facing, and side
seam and sleeve seam. Stitch from bottom
sleeve to bottom edge.

En la parte curva de la axila, hacemos unos

pequeos cortes para evitar arrugas y gestos
feos.
Make some little cuts at the armhole curve to
avoid strange creases.

Cosemos el bajo al gusto.

Make a hem at the bottom edge.
Cosemos el cinturn: Colocamos las 2 piezas
de tela con los lados buenos tocndose y
ponemos la entretela encima del todo.
Sew the belt; Pin the fabrics together, right
sides facing, and the lining on top of them.

Sujetamos con alfileres y cosemos dejando

una abertura para darle la vuelta. Ms detalles
sobre cmo hacerlo enESTE tutorial.
Stitch the perimeter, leaving an opening on
one side for turning the belt right side out.
Turn the belt right side out and iron it.

Si hacis el cinturn con una tela distinta a la

del vestido, no es necesario ponerle un cordn
decorativo. Yo lo hice para que destacara ms.

Lo cos utilizando un prensatelas especial para

este tipo de cordones. Es muy fcil de usar.
Puede que tengis que hacer pruebas hasta
dar con la tensin correcta pero, por lo dems,
no tiene ningn misterio.
It's not necessary to sew a cord on the belt
but, if you want, you can do it with a cording
foot.

Ahora, cosemos el cinturn al vestido. Podis

hacerlo usando el prensatelas universal
(normal) pero, aprovechando que tena el
cordn, se me ocurri utilizarlo como "gua"
para que la puntada fuera perfecta y no se
desviara. Por eso us el prensatelas de
cremallera invisible y, en el agujerito coloqu
el cordn ;)
Finally, stitch the belt to the dress. You can do
it using a universal foot but I used the invisible
zipper foot instead and used the cord as a
guide ;)
