We wish all students a safe and happy holiday!

PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
Dear Parents,
The pictures on the next page highlight what a busy
term it has been. Next term will no doubt be as
busy as we look at the our value of being Aspirational. The big
concept we want children to understand is systems. A number
of classrooms will be looking at body systems and I am looking
forward to seeing senior students driving their own learning
through their inquiries.
We wish all the children an enjoyable and safe holiday and we
look forward to seeing them again on the 1st of May.
Kind regards,
Simon Clarke

Summer Sports Draws to an End
Term one sport at Kaikorai seems to have sped by as Flippaball, Touch, Futsal and T
ball draw to an end.
We are always pleased to see so many children enjoying a range of sports, developing
ball skills and displaying the attitudes and dispositions we encourage at Kaikorai.
The parent helpers at Kaikorai are also tops and we are truly grateful to you for the
commitment you have made to our summer sports teams. It is humbling indeed and
we are thankful you are Kaikorai Mum and Dads!
The Sonics finished second in their Flippaball competition while the Sparks were
placed third. Well done! A number of Futsal teams are playing for Podium finishes this
week.
Thank you Janet Ashcroft, Grant Batchelor, Lana Lloyd, Tamu Oberlin- Brown, Steve
Dyer, Lynnette Holland, Carolyn Walker, Stu Macbeth, Tania Bell, Paul Twemlow,

Otago Swimming Sports

Eight swimmers represented Kaikorai at the Otago Swimming Championships at
Moana Pool last weekend. Kaikorai is always a well represented Primary School and
our eight reps have done us proud.
Congratulations Ava Holland and Alexander Batchelor who made a final, which puts
them in the top eight Otago swimmers for their age.
Olivia Ollerenshaw, Molly Ballard, Loek van Broekhoven, Pippa Trotman, Laura
Allison and Kate Pyper also swam well as individuals and as part of the school relay
teams.
Thank you to Nikola Ballard who was the team manager on the day and to the parents
who supported the swimmers.

Hockey
C J and Nerise Barnes are ex Kaikorai Pupils who played hockey for the school. They
represent their schools still and as they grow out of their sticks and guards and have
donated them to Kaikorai. Thank you CJ and Nerise for the hockey equipment that
some lucky players can now use.

Bob Bickerton
On Friday 13th May our whole school will be involved in watching two shows, Destiny Bay
(seniors) and Music Works (middles and juniors).
Destiny Bay is an historical music/theatre production based on interaction between Maori and
European whalers in the mid 1800s.
Destiny Bay will introduce students to aspects of New Zealand life in the mid 1800s, with
special emphasis on the positive early interaction and mutual respect between Maori and
European whalers. The children also get an opportunity to learn Pakeha and Maori songs and
dances and be exposed to traditional Maori instruments.
Music Works explores 20 different instruments,
covering basic music concepts in a simple to
understand, practical and fun way. They will
learn how musical instruments make their
sounds and discover the differences in pitch
and dynamics, as well as experiment with
different rhythms.
The cost for this performance is kindly paid for by the Parent Group.

KPSTV 2016
KPSTV have got off to a wonderful
start with our largest number of
actors and shows which has resulted
in the longest show we have ever
made. This has resulted us having to
upload the video in two parts.
