shouldspendrelativelymoretimehelpingduringthefollowupreadingactivity.
Whilewalkingaroundtheclasshelpingstudentsduringthefollowupactivity,I
willbecontinuallyassessinghowwelleachstudentisabletoidentifythemain
ideaandsupportingdetailsbyobservingwhattheywriteintheirgraphic
organizerandbytalkingtostudents.AttheendofthelessonIwillcollectthe

graphicorganizersforfurtheranalysis.Iwillwritedownnotesoneachstudents
understandingandmisunderstandingsofmainideaanddetails.IfInoticea
patternofmisunderstanding(e.g.confusingadetailforthemainidea)amongsta
sizeableportionofthestudents,Iwillconsiderplanningaminilessontoaddress
thismisunderstanding.Imayspendtimediscussingmainideaandsupporting
detailsduringrecessandlunchwiththosestudentswhoseemedtostrugglewith
theseconcepts.
