The Utah County Attorney's Office is committed to ensuring fair treatment and justice for
victims of crimes. We strongly advocate to ensure victims have open and easy access to the
protections afforded by the criminal justice system.
BYU is an important and constructive partner with Utah County Law Enforcement agencies in
the prevention of sexual assault crimes and in supporting victims of sexual assault as they report
crime, participate in the investigation and prosecution process, and heal from the effects of these
crimes.
Referring to a report in the Salt Lake Tribune this morning, we want to clarify that BYU has not
interfered with the prosecution of, nor has it acted unlawfully with respect to the pending sexual
assault case. BYU has not in any manner impaired the ability of the Utah County Attorney's
Office to seek justice for the victim of the case.
