The mill of the gods may refer to Gods prayer factory.

Like how a mill does not work with

few actions, Martha endeavored to pray repeatedly similar to as how a mill grinds slowly but
finely. Going back to when she was consoled by their neighbors about her cheating father, after
her heart-break, Martha has enkindled the hatred she kept against men. She believed that her
fate made her pay for the sin that she had not committed. At this point, with a broken heart and
hatred on her father she met a newfound love which left her bitter for it was a love one cannot
be proud to proclaim in public. This made it seem to her that she was still paying for her fathers
sin but all of this alleviated with the death of her father which came unexpectedly which made
her feel retribution for she hoped that at last she would cease to pay for her fathers faults.
Similar to the proverbial quotation, The mills of the gods grind slowly, but they grind
exceedingly small, Marthas prayer took so long before it was answered but later on it was
fulfilled in the best possible way. It means that no matter how long it takes, he who committed a
sin will pay for all the things he had done. God watches all, and the day of reckoning will come in
His perfect time.
